Sidamon combines an archaeological site with historic buildings and routes for different modes of transport. The Iberian archaeological site of Tossal de les Tenalles lies within the municipality. The earliest traces of settlement date back to the Late Bronze Age, to the 9th to 8th centuries BC. Settlement continued uninterrupted until the 2nd century BC. This long period gives Tossal a special place in the history of the town.
The excavation itself is also historically significant: the work carried out in 1915 was considered the first scientific archaeological excavation at an Ilergetes settlement. This means Tossal can be understood not only through its early traces of settlement, but also through the history of archaeological research.
Church and architectural history
The original parish church of Sant Bartomeu de Sidamon has been documented since the 12th century. The parish church was built on the site of the former Castle of Sidamon and the original temple. This site therefore brings together the history of the church and that of a former castle and temple.
Another historic building is Escoles Municipals, a school building dating from 1921. It was designed by Ignasi de Vilallonga Casañes. The date of Cal Miqueló is less certain: the building was probably constructed between 1782 and 1785. Its architectural features include a side gallery with semicircular arches and large stone surrounds around the main openings. Together, these buildings offer different, specific insights into Sidamon’s architectural history.
Routes on foot, by bike and by car
When choosing a route, the mode of transport and distance are useful starting points. The Ruta de la Fita Alta starts in Sidamon, is 3 kilometres long and takes about 55 minutes on foot. The approximate walking time helps you gauge the length of this walking route.
The Ruta de la Serra is different: it is a 20.1-kilometre circular cycling route that passes through Sidamon. The Ruta dels Canals de Regadiu, in turn, is designed for travel by car. This route is 40 kilometres long, starts in Mollerussa and continues through Sidamon. Its themes are irrigated agriculture, nature and cultural heritage. The three routes therefore differ in their modes of transport, distances and areas of focus.
La Pineda de Sidamon
La Pineda de Sidamon is a pine-planted recreation area on the CamĂ de la Serra, about 300 metres outside the village. Facilities for cooking and recreation include barbecue grills, running water and service facilities. A reservation is required in advance to use the area. If you plan to visit La Pineda, bear this requirement in mind beforehand.
Plan your stay around your interests
When looking for a holiday rental in Sidamon, you can first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: Tossal de les Tenalles and the historic buildings offer insights into local history, while the routes vary in whether they are travelled on foot, by bike or by car. La Pineda adds a recreation area for cooking and relaxing; a reservation is required to use it. This makes it possible to assess the destination based on its specific cultural and route offerings.
