Fondarella can be explored from different perspectives: a route between the town, the Canal Auxiliar d'Urgell and the Sidamon area; historic architectural styles; and the Mostra d'Oficis i Artesania with its cultural focus. This combination makes the municipality interesting to travellers who do not want to limit their stay to a single theme. When looking for a holiday apartment in Fondarella, the buildings, route and Sunday market offer concrete starting points for considering which interests might shape your stay.

A route from Fondarella to Sidamon

The “De Fondarella a Sidamon” route begins on Camí de Mollerussa, near the railway tracks. It leaves the town centre, reaches the Canal Auxiliar d'Urgell, passes through the Sidamon area and then returns to Fondarella. This brings the starting point, the canal and Sidamon together in a single route. The route offers a different perspective on Fondarella from the individual buildings in the town: here, the connection between the town, the canal and Sidamon is the focus. Those interested in this connection will find a concrete starting point for planning their own trip.

A church, a chapel and a house bearing a name

The parish church of Santa Maria brings together two historical layers: it is of Romanesque origin and was remodelled in the 15th century. Its structure consists of three naves and three elongated, semicircular apses. The façade of grey stone blocks features a voussoir-framed portal, a moulded oculus and a bell gable with triangular mouldings. An oculus is a circular opening in a façade; in a voussoir-framed portal, the arch stones are arranged in a wedge shape. These descriptions make it possible to identify the architectural elements even without specialist knowledge.

A simpler contrast is provided by the Ermita de Sant Sebastià: a single-nave chapel right beside the town of Fondarella and at a crossroads. Its bell gable has one opening; at both corners are spiral-shaped brick column finials. Compared with the three-nave Santa Maria, the difference in architectural form is already apparent from the number of naves. Cal Reinyé adds another distinctive feature: this two-storey corner house has dressed lintels on its façade. The name PERE REINYÉ is inscribed on the lintel above the central balcony. Together, the three buildings offer different points of interest: a parish church, a chapel and a house, each with a clearly identifiable architectural detail.

Crafts and folk culture

The Mostra d'Oficis i Artesania de Fondarella offers a different focus from the buildings. It was created with the aim of reviving social roots and folk culture. The 2025 edition presented around thirty traditional crafts. This means that, alongside architecture, traditional crafts are another cultural theme through which Fondarella can be explored.

Sunday market and trip planning

A weekly market is held in Fondarella every Sunday. If the market is important to your visit, check the current date in advance. When looking for a holiday apartment in Fondarella, you can first consider whether the route, the different architectural styles or the weekly market is likely to be the main focus of your trip. This lets you plan around your interests without having to follow a set order for visiting the individual sights.
