La Pera combines striking rock formations with a medieval street plan. The rocks are clearly visible from the foot of the hill; narrow, steep streets and historic architectural features shape the character of the town. Púbol, Riuràs and Pedrinyà also bring their own architectural, artistic and landscape themes. If you are looking for a hotel in La Pera, these different highlights can help with your travel planning: from the town centre and its architectural history to landscapes and local traditions.

Streets, church and fortification wall

The medieval street plan is especially evident in the narrow, steep streets, some of which are covered by vaults. Many houses retain ornate eaves and other old architectural features dating from the 15th to the 19th century. Together, these details offer insight into different periods of construction, without reducing the town centre to a single era.

The parish church of Sant Isidor de la Pera stands at the highest point of the town centre. Built from the late 16th century and through the 17th century, it is in the Gothic-Renaissance style. The tower features Gothic tracery arcades and carved gargoyles. The church and streets offer different perspectives on the historic architecture on a walk around the town.

The remains of La Pera’s fortress, documented in 1273, provide further evidence of the town’s history. Among the surviving features is a large fragment of the fortification wall. The town’s built heritage is thus not only represented by individual houses or the church: the documented fortifications are also part of the history of the town centre.

Púbol and Pedrinyà

Nearby Púbol lies 1 km south of La Pera, on the right bank of the Riera de Púbol. The Gothic church of Sant Pere was built next to the castle between 1327 and 1341. At the nearby Castell Gala Dalí, visitors can walk freely around the interior on a one-way route from Room 1 to Room 10. Check the latest visitor information before your visit, as access arrangements may change.

Transport is a separate planning consideration when travelling to Púbol: there is currently no public transport connection to the town centre. Flaçà railway station is 5 km from Púbol; from there, you can take a taxi to the castle. Check transport options again before setting out.

Pedrinyà also has an art-historical connection. The Romanesque wall paintings from Sant Andreu de Pedrinyà are kept at the Museu d’Art de Girona and date from the 12th century or the beginning of the 13th century. The paintings are considered the best-preserved example of Romanesque painting in Baix Empordà. Pedrinyà celebrates the feast of Saint Andrew every year on the last Sunday in November.

Landscape, cycling and traditions

Riuràs is a compact settlement of farmhouses on a terrace on the slopes of Les Gavarres, surrounded by pine and holm oak forests. Can Negre is an 18th-century farmhouse; its door lintels feature triangular floral decorations. West of Riuràs stands the small 17th-century chapel of Sant Rafael. Services there ceased after the post-war period. Pine and holm oak forests also characterise the western and north-western parts of the municipality. Remains of volcanic activity are another feature of La Pera.

Those wishing to explore the surrounding area by bike can follow a circular route starting at La Pera town hall: it runs under the name La Pera–Corçà–Monells–Madremanya and is marked with red route signs. Its scenery combines cultivated fields with woodland. Check current route conditions before setting off; no travel time or difficulty level is specified.

Local traditions include the Cargolada de La Pera, a communal snail feast. Dried snails are served with aioli and tomato sauce. The Festa Major lasted three days in each of the 2025 and 2026 programmes. The 2026 programme included a mass accompanied by a cobla, two sardanas in the square, and a closing concert and dance evening with the Orquestra Selvatana. If you are planning your trip around a festival, check the dates for the relevant year.
