The options in Sant Pere de Torelló range from a walking tour with sculptures at several locations in the town to the PR C-45, which takes just under six hours to complete. Nature, architectural history and traces of older working traditions are other themes. So when planning, the first thing to decide is whether you want to focus on a walk around town, a longer hike or individual natural attractions.
Forests, protected areas and far-reaching views
The Puigsacalm-Bellmunt-Milany mountain ranges lie mostly within the municipality and are part of Catalonia’s Pla d’Espais d’Interès Natural (PEIN). Around 70 percent of the municipality consists of forests, woodland and pastureland. The Santuari de Bellmunt offers one of the most extensive panoramas over the Osona comarca and southern Ripollès.
One notable forest area is the Fageda de la Grevolosa, which lies within the EIN Serres de Milany-Santa Magdalena i Puigsacalm-Bellmunt protected area. Beech trees grow there to more than 30 metres tall; some specimens are over 200 years old. A waterfall about 15 metres high is also found in a wooded setting in the upper reaches of the Ges River. An uphill footpath leads there from La Vall.
Buildings and craft traditions
Construction of the parish church of Sant Pere de Torelló began in 1727, and it was consecrated in 1764. Its redesign made it a neoclassical architectural monument. The Pont de La Riera offers a different historical perspective: the Romanesque bridge formed part of a transhumance route along which livestock was driven to the fairs.
The Ruta de la Torneria also highlights a local craft. Sculptures at various locations in the town tell the story of a dying craft tradition. The route is an easy circular walk that links the sculptures in a cultural tour. A chapel stands at an altitude of 730 metres on the small summit and rocky ridge of Serrat de Nespla. It is about half an hour from the town of Sant Pere de Torelló; from there, the view extends over the Vic plain.
Circular walk or longer hike?
For a walk around Sant Pere de Torelló, the Ruta de la Torneria offers a clear cultural focus: its theme unfolds through the sculptures at several locations in the town. If you are planning a longer route, the PR C-45 Sender de la Vall de Ges is on a different scale. It takes just under six hours to complete and connects Torelló, Sant Vicenç de Torelló and Sant Pere de Torelló.
On the PR C-45, yellow-and-white PR markers and information boards show the way. This route connects three towns, making it quite different in length and course from the circular walk within Sant Pere de Torelló. You can choose between the two options according to the time you have available and whether you prefer a circular walk or a longer hike.
Recreation area and access to the Fageda
The freely accessible La Riera recreation area is a ten-minute walk from the town of Sant Pere de Torelló, in the direction of La Vola, and has tables. If you plan to visit, check the current operating rules beforehand, as they may change.
The Fageda de la Grevolosa can be reached via the road in the direction of Olot. From near the Bracons farmhouse, an additional 15- to 20-minute walk leads there. Getting your bearings for a visit therefore involves both the road direction and the walk that follows; local conditions may change, so checking the latest access information is recommended.
