Collsuspina brings together local history, cultural sites and routes. In the protected Bosc de Casanova area, you can see three centuries-old oak trees. A hydrographic junction also lies within the municipality, near the church of Sant Cugat de Gavadons: the Ter, Besòs and Llobregat river basins meet there. The range of points of interest thus extends from the historic town centre to a distinctive geographical landmark within the municipality.

Inns and Local History

Collsuspina’s old town developed in the 18th century from several inns along the royal road. The town centre can therefore also be understood as the result of an earlier culture of roads and stopping places: the inns were part of its origins. Can Xarina was the first house built there and is now an inn. This house thus brings together the history of the early settlement and a present-day form of accommodation.

Romanesque Heritage and Traces of Early Settlement

The Romanesque church of Sant Cugat de Gavadons is a building whose design is characteristic of the 12th century. It was first mentioned in 948 under the place name Gavadons. Its architecture and early mention in historical records offer different historical points of interest that help put a visit into its cultural context.

Every year on 1 May, the Aplec, a traditional gathering, takes place at Sant Cugat de Gavadons. If you plan to travel for this event, check that year’s programme in advance.

The Poua de glaç de l'Espina is an ice pit with a diameter of 9 metres. It is not perfectly round; the surviving walls are 5 or 6 metres high. The site is privately owned, and access is difficult. If you plan to include the Poua in your itinerary, take these access conditions into account.

Archaeological sites also add to the picture of early settlement. Ancient graves have been excavated near l'Espina. Below the settlement, at l'hort del Paleta, a cave was inhabited and has yielded archaeological finds. The evidence varies: excavated graves in one place, finds from a once-inhabited cave in another. Together, they broaden the picture beyond churches and houses.

Planning Routes and Travel

Two routes offer different planning options. The Bosc de Casanoves – El Querol circular route is easy. The route to the Sant Cugat de Gavadons hermitage is 6.47 km long. You can therefore choose based on whether you prefer a circular route and an easy level of difficulty, or a specific distance. Check local route conditions before setting out.

For travel, public bus route 710 runs via l'Estany – Moià – Castellterçol – Moià – Collsuspina – Tona – Vic. The timetable is valid from 18 November 2024; check the current timetable before travelling. The route is partially adapted for people with reduced mobility. If this adaptation is important for your journey, check in advance whether it meets your specific travel needs.
