The Roserar de Dot i de CamprubĂ has a clear focus: 420 rose varieties. The collection may change as plantings are renewed. Labels and explanatory information identify its various areas and collections. In addition to the rose theme, architectural and industrial history offer other points of interest; in the Collserola area, the focus is on landscapes and trails.

Rose growing and local tradition

The Exposició Nacional de Roses was established in 1927 by rose grower Pere Dot from Sant Feliu de Llobregat. It is one of the city’s oldest, deeply rooted and most distinctive traditions. The collection and the tradition offer two different ways to explore the subject of roses: through the varieties in the Roserar, and through the event’s history. Individual programme details vary from one edition to the next.

Architectural history across different centuries

The Cases de Joan Batllori were built in 1914 by architect Melcior Viñals, commissioned by Joan Batllori. Three years earlier, Casa Josep Aguadé, now the Sindicat Agrícola, was built to a design by municipal architect Gabriel Borrell i Cardona. The buildings were constructed close together in time; the client is named for the Cases, while the Casa is associated with the role of the municipal architect.

The Palau Falguera and its surrounding gardens represent an earlier historical period: both date from the 17th century. The Ermita La Salut is also classified as a 17th-century religious building and is privately owned. Its chapel was built over a medieval hermitage and consecrated in 1749. The chapel thus combines a medieval history with a specific consecration date.

Cultural routes and other art

The Ruta Modernista de Sant Feliu de Llobregat is a cultural trail through buildings and spaces that form part of the city’s Modernist heritage. The Can Bertrand route offers a different historical focus: visitors can explore on foot the spaces and features of the factory colony, whose development began in 1861, and follow its evolution. The two routes therefore differ in their subject matter: Modernist heritage on the one hand, industrial development on the other.

The sculptural ensemble Matèria Gris is by artist Lluís Sans from Sant Feliu de Llobregat and is located in the gardens. It adds a distinctive artistic dimension to the architectural and route themes, without being tied to a single building.

Trails and landscapes in Collserola

The municipal proposal for themed routes in the Collserola area of Sant Feliu includes two circular routes starting at the Àrea de lleure de la Salut, as well as a third circular route. Route conditions may change, so check the latest information before setting out. The Collserola routes follow roads, paths and tracks and are suitable for walkers, hikers and cyclists. Viewpoints offer panoramic views of the landscape and opportunities for birdwatching.

The vegetation also tells the story of changing land use. The Paratge de la Salut is characterised by pine and holm oak forests, with some oaks. These trees now cover areas where carob, olive and almond trees were once cultivated. The grounds of Can Ferriol contain eleven vineyard huts of different types, three of which have been restored. Together, these details show different aspects of the landscape, from the present-day woodland to earlier forms of land use and surviving structures.
