A stay in Cornellà De Llobregat offers a wide range of discoveries: hands-on mathematics, a Gothic manor house overlooking the Llobregat and a park with a lake and gardens. Those who enjoy exploring a subject through games and constructions will find a different approach at the Museu de Matemàtiques de Catalunya – MMACA than at the Museu Palau Mercader, which showcases the way of life and interests of an aristocratic family. The Castell de Cornellà and Parc de Can Mercader also have their own distinctive features. This makes it easy to choose what to focus on according to your interests.

Mathematics through games and constructions

The MMACA’s permanent exhibition, “Experiències matemàtiques”, features games, constructions and other elements. Its rooms explore geometry, mirrors, arithmetic and statistics, combinatorics and strategy, as well as cartography. Rather than limiting mathematics to a single area, the exhibition takes visitors through several fields of study. Covering more than 300 m², the museum offers hands-on, playful exhibitions and activities; it is located in the Palau Mercader.

The MMACA offers family workshops every Sunday, and advance registration is required. As the regular programme may change, check the latest information and registration requirements before your visit. The workshop is a separate way to engage with mathematics, while the permanent exhibition focuses on its themed rooms and exhibits.

Collections and everyday life at the Museu Palau Mercader

The Museu Palau Mercader showcases the way of life and the cultural and artistic interests of an aristocratic family from the late 19th century. Its exhibition includes more than 3,000 objects that made up the former “Museum of the Count of Bell·lloc”. Here, a large collection is combined with a glimpse into the interests of a particular historical way of life.

The museum offers self-guided visits on Sundays and public holidays from 11:00 to 13:00, provided that no other conflicting activity is taking place. Check the current agenda before your visit: both the time slot and the condition for the visit are relevant when planning.

A Gothic manor house overlooking the Llobregat

The Castell de Cornellà is a large Gothic manor house, built and remodelled over several periods. Its construction history therefore spans more than one phase. The building stands on a small hill, offering a good view of the Llobregat in its lower reaches. Architecture and landscape come together here in a specific view, without reducing the Castell to its outlook alone.

The Castell has an exhibition room. Cultural and civic activities take place in the courtyard; the programme may vary. If you are planning a visit for a particular event, check its date and programme in advance. The manor house, its building history and the use of the courtyard offer different perspectives on this place.

Parc de Can Mercader

Parc de Can Mercader includes a lake, gardens with pavilions and viewpoints, paths, recreational areas and a swimming pool. The grounds were laid out on former cultivated terraces. The water, garden spaces and paths give the park a character distinct from that of the collections and historic buildings. These features describe different aspects of the park landscape, rather than a single attraction.

Electric miniature trains operate in the park and can be ridden by children and adults. Availability may vary, so check in advance whether rides are being offered if you want to plan one. This distinguishes the activity from the park’s other features without assuming a fixed operating schedule.

More cultural discoveries

The Museu de les Aigües houses a faithful, full-size reproduction of the now-vanished Cascada de la Casa Vicens by Antoni Gaudí. Its scale makes the connection to the lost original clear: it is a full-size reproduction, not a scale model. This architectural feature offers a different focus from the mathematics exhibition, the historical collection or the manor house.

The Festival Internacional de Pallassos de Cornellà brings together a selection of highly regarded clowning professionals. If the festival is a deciding factor in your trip, check the dates of the relevant events in advance. Along with the museums, the Castell and the park, it offers another cultural option to consider when choosing what to experience in Cornellà De Llobregat.
