The Roca Foradada route leads to a viewpoint at an altitude of 642 metres, overlooking the Vall de Corbera, the Baix Llobregat plain and the sea. This view is a good introduction to a region where marked trails, historic buildings and seasonal activities appeal to different travel interests. When planning your trip, it is worth first deciding whether landscape, outdoor activities, culture or a particular event date will shape your stay.
Explore the trail network and landscape
The Baix Llobregat trail network is divided into three parallel routes. They connect towns in the comarca and extend as far as Barcelona and the beaches of the Llobregat Delta. The western route, the Eje de Poniente, covers a total of 80 kilometres and is supplemented by more than 90 kilometres of alternative routes and connecting paths. In Corbera de Llobregat, it splits; as the Eje de Poniente Interior, it continues to the beaches of Castelldefels, GavĂ and Viladecans.
The Eje del RĂo offers a different kind of route: from Martorell, a broad, flat, gently sloping path runs along both sides of the river and is suitable for walking and cycling. This comparison is useful when choosing a route based on its described character and use. In addition, the Corbera de Llobregat tourism area has put together eight self-guided routes through the town and its surroundings. Route conditions may change, so check them before setting out on a specific trip.
The landscape extends beyond individual trails. Baix Llobregat combines a coastline with fine-sand beaches and a mountainous landscape shaped by ranges such as Montserrat and Garraf. The Llobregat Delta is noted for its ecological richness. Les Muntanyes del Baix cover more than 120 square kilometres, including over 10,000 hectares of woodland.
Romanesque architecture, local history and heritage
The former monastery of Sant Ponç is an example of Lombard Romanesque architecture in Baix Llobregat. Founded in the 11th century, it belonged to a network of Benedictine monasteries. Their functions included religious duties as well as agriculture and territorial control. This allows the building to be considered not only architecturally, but also in its historical context.
In Corbera de Llobregat, the church of Santa Maria de Corbera dates from the 13th century. It stands on a peak that was once partly occupied by the castle of the Barons of Corbera; the church and castle have always formed part of the same complex. At a regional level, Baix Llobregat also boasts a significant historic Modernist heritage.
Themed tours focusing on history and heritage are offered throughout the year. These include immersive visits exploring feudal history and visits to the former monastery of Sant Ponç three times a year. Another way to discover local culture is the Mercado del Bandolero: held on the first Saturday in October in Corbera de Llobregat, it features traditional craft demonstrations, local cuisine and workshops. If you are planning your trip around a particular date, check the event dates in advance.
Seasonal activities and event dates
In spring and summer, the Rutes d'herbes Silvestres (wild herb routes) show how to identify edible and medicinal wild plants and use them in cooking. Astronomy evenings with telescopes and easy-to-understand explanations are also held during these seasons. Visitors learn about constellations, planets and other celestial objects.
The Cinc Cims mountain race takes place every January in Corbera de Llobregat. The event covers 27.6 kilometres with an elevation gain of 1,325 metres. As race details may change, it is advisable to check the information before planning your trip. This makes it easier to match seasonal offerings to your interests and the time available for your trip.
Getting to Baix Llobregat and finding hotels
Baix Llobregat is accessible via Barcelona-El Prat International Airport, high-speed rail, roads and public transport by train, TRAM and bus; travel by sea is also among the listed ways to get there.
Then compare the location of each accommodation with the places you plan to visit, and take your planned connections into account when deciding. That way, your choice will be based not just on the name of the region, but on the itinerary that matters most to you.
