The Iberian settlement of Cadira del Bisbe connects Premià de Dalt’s early settlement history with views of the coast and mountain range. It is located in Parc Natural de la Serralada Litoral and dates from the 6th to the 1st century BC. The excavated ruins cover 4,000 square metres. From the settlement, you can see the coast and mountain range. The SL-C 112 Ruta de l'Esquirol begins at the oppidum—a specific starting point for discovering the area’s archaeological highlights.
Cultural Routes and Architectural History
The Museu de Premià de Dalt is housed in Masia Can Figueres, which has been documented since the late 13th century. The museum’s aims include preserving, researching and sharing the municipality’s cultural heritage. The Itinerari de l'aigua begins at the museum. Along this route, you’ll encounter springs, fountains, washhouses and mills—four different types of stops that shape its focus on water.
Other routes each offer a distinct focus: Passejant per la Cisa is a guided cultural route exploring the legend, history and traditions surrounding the Santuari de la Mare de Déu de la Cisa. Check local arrangements before your trip. The Sagrera medieval i les capelles route explores Premià de Dalt’s medieval architecture and religious heritage. Masías y casas singulares leads to up to 24 historic farmhouses and distinctive houses.
The Santuari de la Mare de Déu de la Cisa is an 18th-century religious building in the Baroque style. The main altar features a polychrome Gothic wooden image from the first half of the 14th century. The hermitage of Sant Mateu offers another architectural perspective: it is of Romanesque origin and has a barrel vault and a semicircular apse. The hermitage stands at the highest point of the Serra de Sant Mateu ridge and serves as a viewpoint over the inland counties and the coast. The parish church of Sant Pere de Premià was completely remodelled in the Late Gothic style in 1588.
Forest, Trails and Cycling
The extensive forest around Premià de Dalt is criss-crossed by hiking trails that offer views of the Mediterranean. The SL-C 112 Ruta de l'Esquirol is a circular route through the Sant Mateu area. There you’ll find a hermitage, a spring and a hill. The free Aparcament de la Plana del Mestre car park is on this route, as well as on the GR92 and Meridià Verd. As trail conditions can change, it’s a good idea to check them before setting out on a hike.
There are also different ways to enjoy cycling. Una vuelta por Sant Mateu is a circular cycling route that climbs Sant Mateu hill and passes the hermitage of Sant Mateu del Bosc. La Poma Bikepark was established in 2005 as a campillo for dirt jumping. Its areas include bowls, a trials section, a street section with obstacles, a jump zone and a foam pit. The two activities are quite different: one is a circular ride through the Sant Mateu area, while the other is a facility with various bike park areas.
Festivals, Wine and Planning Your Stay
The Aplec de la Cisa is celebrated every year on 1 May in devotion to the Mare de Déu de la Cisa. The Aplec de Sant Mateu takes place on the Sunday closest to 21 September, when the chapel is opened. Annual arrangements may change. If you’d like to plan your trip around one of the festivals, check the details for the relevant year.
Enotast is a wine tasting in Premià de Dalt featuring wines from DO Alella, paired with seasonal products from the region. As you should confirm the current date, it’s worth checking the event schedule before your trip. If you’re looking for a hotel in Premià de Dalt, first decide what you’d like your stay to focus on: architectural history and cultural routes, hiking and cycling, or a visit to the wine tasting. This will help you choose a destination that matches your interests before planning your stay.
