Discover Puig-Reig through its historic buildings, textile history and routes through the countryside. For planning, you can choose between a self-guided tour spanning a broad historical period, individual cultural sites and landscape views. The routes and places each focus on different themes.

Walking tours and routes through Puig-Reig

The self-guided “Ruta dels Templers i els Obrers” runs through the countryside and the town centre of Puig-Reig. On the tour, you can discover four of the municipality’s main tourist attractions. Its historical span stretches from the consecration of the church of Sant Martí in 907 to the closure of Colònia Pons in 1992, covering almost a thousand years. This places an early church consecration and a later turning point in the history of Colònia Pons within the same time frame.

The section of the Ruta de les Colònies that passes through Puig-Reig has a different focus. It connects the colonies from Cal Prat to l’Ametlla de Merola via various paths and nature trails. While the self-guided tour spans a broad historical period, this route focuses on the named colonies and types of paths. As trail conditions may change, check them before setting out.

Textile history and cultural sites

Colònia Pons was built between 1875 and 1920; its monumental complex was designated a Cultural Asset of National Interest in 2017. These dates mark two different milestones: the construction period and the complex’s later cultural recognition.

At the Museu de la Colònia Vidal, you can learn about the entire cotton-processing process in the textile hall, using machinery from 100 years ago, and watch a demonstration of a working “teler de garrot” loom. Individual visitors can visit the museum on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays without booking in advance. Check visiting hours and capacity before travelling.

Romanesque architecture, a residence and paintings

Castell de Puig-reig was chosen by the viscount and troubadour Guillem de Berguedà as the site of his residence. Sant Marçal, an example of early Romanesque architecture, is located on the road between Puig-reig and Casserres and may date back to the 11th century. In addition to its Romanesque architecture, Sant Andreu de Cal Pallot preserves unique paintings within the municipality. The three sites offer distinct cultural and historical highlights: Castell de Puig-reig focuses on the residence associated with Guillem de Berguedà, Sant Marçal on early Romanesque architecture with a tentative date, and Sant Andreu on the combination of architecture and painting.

La Madrona and views of the landscape

La Madrona, also known as “Roques de Madrona”, is one of the highest points in the municipality, at 685 metres. From there, you can enjoy panoramic views in all four directions. These features distinguish the landscape experience from the Ruta de les Colònies: the route is defined by paths connecting named colonies, while La Madrona is defined by its elevation and views.
