Sant Boi de Lluçanès can be explored through a range of themes: churches with their own historical associations, fossils from the distant geological past, natural sites and the craft tradition of Pa de Sant Boi. This range is useful when planning a stay: you can focus on architectural history, geology, landscape or local crafts, rather than viewing every place by the same criteria.

Churches from Different Periods

Construction of the Església de Sant Boi de Lluçanès began in 1763 and was completed in 1776. Eight original altarpieces have been preserved inside. The construction period and furnishings give the church a concrete historical context. Visits must be arranged in advance by calling 670 20 51 65.

The Església de Sant Miquel de Gallifa offers a different architectural accent: it is a Romanesque building dating from the 11th century. It has been well restored and lies near Mas de Gallifa, at the foot of the Munts. The Església de Sant Salvador de Bellver is also Romanesque. It is located on a ridge at the northeastern edge of the municipality of Sant Boi de Lluçanès, overlooking the northern part of the Plana de Vic.

Together, the three churches offer different historical and landscape connections: the Església de Sant Boi stands out for its construction period and original altarpieces; Sant Miquel de Gallifa for its 11th-century origins and location at the foot of the Munts; and Sant Salvador de Bellver for its ridge-top setting with views of the northern Plana de Vic. These differences help you choose which churches to visit based on your interest in furnishings, architectural history or landscape.

Fossils and Geological History

The Museu de Fòssils focuses on natural history. It contains around 5,000 specimens representing about 70 different species. Most of the fossils are marine specimens from sedimentary rock. The fossils on display at the museum are between 30 and 35 million years old. The size of the collection, the diversity of species, the fossils’ origins and their age offer different ways to explore it: you can look at both the specimens on display and their geological context. Those interested in natural history will find a different thematic focus here than at the churches and their architectural history.

Natural Sites and Landscape

Individual natural sites also shape the options. The Roure de la Senyora is a protected monumental tree catalogued by the Generalitat de Catalunya; it is located near Mas El Vilar. The Font de la Prada lies south of Sant Boi de Lluçanès beside a good road, surrounded by lush vegetation. The two places represent different landscape connections: a catalogued tree near a mas, and a spring in a southern setting surrounded by vegetation.

Pa de Sant Boi and Local Crafts

Another distinctive feature is the traditional technique of baking Pa de Sant Boi in a wood-fired oven. This tradition is preserved at Forn de pa cal Pujals in the center of Sant Boi de Lluçanès. The bread-making tradition has been passed down from generation to generation; the cal Pujals oven was built in the 1940s. This brings together a long-standing craft and a specific historical connection to the oven. For a stay focused on local culture, bread offers a distinct theme alongside churches, fossils and landscape. The focus is on the baking technique and how it has been passed down, not just on the name of a regional product.

A Playful Discovery

The Ruta-Joc dels Bolets is designed as a QR-code game featuring questions, riddles and challenges. It adds an interactive option to the historical, geological and landscape themes. If you would like to explore culture in ways other than visiting churches and collections, you can include this game as another, differently structured thematic option.
