Premià de Mar combines five beaches along 2.5 kilometres of coastline with a distinctive cultural offering: the Museu de l’Estampació is Spain’s only museum specializing in textile printing. Here, days by the sea meet local history, exhibitions and festivals.
Beaches and activities by the sea
Premià de Mar is home to Platja de Llevant, Platja de Bellamar, Pla de l'Os, Platja de la Descàrrega and Platja de Ponent. Platja de Llevant, Platja de Bellamar and one section of Platja Pla de l’Òs have lifeguards. Platja de Llevant has beach sports facilities for beach volleyball and beach soccer; facilities and availability may change.
You can also explore the coast on two wheels: the route from El Masnou to Premià de Mar follows the seafront promenade, offers Mediterranean views and runs along cycle paths fully separated from road traffic. Route conditions may change; check the current route before setting off.
Museums, buildings and Roman traces
The Museu de l’Estampació focuses on textile printing. Its permanent exhibition is complemented by temporary exhibitions, guided tours, printing demonstrations and workshops. The museum is accessible, with ramps and lifts, as well as tactile modules, Braille dossiers and raised images.
The Museu Romà offers an immersive audiovisual experience; visits are made with an audio guide. It is accessible to visitors with reduced mobility and has ramps, lifts and a scale model for blind visitors. Can Ferrerons offers another glimpse into Roman history: the building has an octagonal floor plan, is in excellent condition and is currently considered the only Roman building of its kind known in Catalonia.
The history of the Església de Sant Cristòfol dates back to 1798, when the seafarers’ guild laid its foundation stone. Its Baroque portal features maritime and costumbrista motifs. Can Manent is the oldest fully preserved building in Premià de Mar. The Casa de la Festa de Can Manent houses all the figures from the town’s festival parade.
Festivals, art and local traditions
The Festa Major de Sant Cristòfol combines a traditional local programme with numerous events involving the community and supported by Pirates i Premianencs. The Festa Major d’Hivern was revived in 2006 and is associated with carnival, traditional dances and satirical events. For the Festa Major of Premià de Mar, a pirate invasion is staged on the beaches around 10 July as a special performance; exact dates and the programme vary.
Rebombori is an annual festival of popular and traditional culture. It lasts three days and includes activities for all age groups; exact dates vary. ArTardor is an annual visual arts competition featuring photography, painting and drawing, as well as sculpture. The weekend programme Som-hi! Caps de setmana per descobrir is aimed at families and includes leisure, cultural and educational activities at various venues in Premià de Mar. Dates and venues may change.
Market, transport and activities
The municipal Mercat de Sant Joan has been operating since 1968. Getting around town is made easier by a local bus route, a taxi service and a RENFE commuter rail station. A regular bus route also provides a night connection to Barcelona. Check current timetables before travelling, especially if you plan to use the night service.
For activities on the water or in the mountains, Cercleaventura-Premia offers year-round outdoor sports and leisure activities. The operator’s specific offering may change. The Club de Rem de Premià practices fixed-bench rowing, including in the Catalan llagut and the batel. Those interested can try rowing for free; contacting the club in advance may be advisable.
