In Seva, there is a range of things to discover: paths through forests and pastureland, historic buildings and places of remembrance. Seva is one of the municipalities in the Parc Natural del Montseny. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing between routes by length and destination: in addition to the Ruta dels Molins, walks lead to a chapel and a menhir; other stops tell the story of the town’s architectural history.
Hiking Trails and Rural Destinations
The Ruta dels Molins is a 5.2-kilometre circular trail with 142 metres of elevation gain, suitable for all groups. Stops along the route include the remains of the MolĂ de Sors. The trail passes through dense woodland and also includes a short botanical trail. The mill remains and botanical information give the route a variety of points of interest.
Another option is the path to Pont d'en Gatus or MolĂ dels Sors: it takes about two hours and is approximately 7.8 kilometres long. Along the way, it passes through small pastures, poplar groves and young oak woods. At approximately 7.8 kilometres, the walk to Pont d'en Gatus or MolĂ dels Sors is longer than the 5.2-kilometre Ruta dels Molins and takes about two hours.
The destinations also differ: a 6.7-kilometre walk leads to the rural chapel of Santa Madrona, while another goes to the Menhir de Perafita. Santa Madrona combines a walk with a building whose origins are thought to date to the end of the 17th century. The chapel was restored in the early 1990s.
Church, Local History and Places of Remembrance
Santa Maria de Seva preserves a church nave and bell tower dating from the 12th century. The tower has a completely square base, six metres on each side, is 16.5 metres high and is divided into six storeys. These measurements give the building a clear, easy-to-understand form: the square ground plan, height and divisions can all be seen together when looking at the tower.
Another historic site is the original Sagrera de Seva. It was fortified as early as the 14th century and surrounded by walls and gates. Mas Sors also dates back to the 13th century; a Gothic window with a cusped arch survives there. These buildings point to different periods and features: the fortifications, window design and church tower each tell the story of Seva in their own way.
The Creu del CarlĂ commemorates the Carlist soldier Fernando Lanzuela, who died on 23 August 1873. From Seva cemetery, you can reach the monument via a forest track in just over 20 minutes. You can factor these details into your schedule when planning a visit.
More Places to Visit
You can also visit the Museu de la Forja de VĂctor Ibañez in the municipal building. The Oficina de Turisme provides information about services and other facilities in the Parc Natural del Montseny. This gives you a range of options for your stay in Seva: choose one of the routes described, combine a walk with a historic destination, or explore the subject of blacksmithing at the museum. The specific distances given, the approximate duration of the walk to Pont d'en Gatus or MolĂ dels Sors, and your interest in the various buildings can help you decide.
