Choose from different ways to enjoy a stay in Cabrils: discover local history through its church, museum and sundials, or explore the landscape around its springs, viewpoints and signposted trails. A good introduction to the town’s history is the Ruta patrimonial, also known as the Ruta urbana. It starts at Plaça de l'Església de la Santa Creu and ends at the Museu-Arxiu Municipal de Cabrils – Can Ventura del Vi.

Churches, Museum and Sundials

The Església de la Santa Creu is an 18th-century church. Its Baroque façade and 20th-century bell tower reveal two distinct periods of construction. At the end of the Ruta patrimonial, also known as the Ruta urbana, is the Museu-Arxiu Municipal de Cabrils – Can Ventura del Vi. It is housed in one of Cabrils’ oldest farmhouses. Its collection includes agricultural tools, archaeological material and tools used in traditional trades; these were donated by local residents.

The Ruta dels rellotges de sol offers another theme, leading to more than twenty sundials that form part of Cabrils’ astronomical, mathematical and historical heritage. Can Vehils also draws attention to architectural forms: this fortified farmhouse has a square defensive tower with its original pyramid-shaped roof. The church of Sant Cristòfol de Cabrils is in the southernmost part of the municipality, near the border with Vilassar. A Roman road once ran past its site, followed later by a royal road; the church stands above a group of old farmhouses and modern homes.

Springs, Views and Geological Features

The fountains each have their own distinctive features. Font de la Sagrera retains its original stones and water-pumping wheel system. Font Picant is known for its carbonated water. Arborètum de Catalunya is in central Cabrils, within Parc de la Serralada Litoral. Self-guided or guided visits are available for groups of ten or more, including families, friends and school groups. The picnic area has swings, dining tables and an oven.

Cova de les Encantades, also known as Forat de les Bones Dones, is a large tafoni rock formation with two openings and a height of about two metres. It is listed in the geological sites catalogue of Parc Serralada Litoral. The cave is interpreted as an Iberian cultural centre and served as an Iberian sanctuary cave between the 4th and 1st centuries BC. Montcabrer and TurĂł de l'Infern have distinctive geological and biological features: their peaks are part of the Montcabrer-Burriac leucogranite outcrops, and the area has a notable diversity of lichens. Both peaks are listed in the Inventory of Geologically Interesting Sites of Catalonia, within the Castell de Burriac geozone.

Mirador de Montcabrer is a natural viewpoint with views of Barcelona, Montnegre and Montseny. It has a protective railing, two panoramic panels and an information panel about the summit cross. You can visit the viewpoint as a destination in its own right, while the geological information offers a different perspective on the peaks and their surroundings.

Choose a Trail by Length and Focus

Two signposted trails provide specific times and distances for easy comparison. SL-C 116 La creu de Montcabrer starts at Plaça de l'Església in Cabrils and is listed as taking 50 minutes over 2.9 kilometres. SL-C 113 A la Roca d'en Toni des de Cabrils starts at Avinguda Santa Elena on the road to Vilassar de Dalt; it is listed as taking 1 hour 30 minutes over 5.3 kilometres. The figures may vary slightly depending on the measurement method. They distinguish the two trails by duration and length, without indicating their difficulty.

Other routes have their own landmarks. Ruta de la Roca d'en Toni starts at the bridge by the Cabrils petrol station. Ruta de la Creu de Montcabrer II offers views from eastern Cabrils of the Mediterranean, coastal towns, fields, greenhouses and residential areas. The Cabrils mountain-biking route is long and technically challenging, passing through landscapes that change considerably. It is intended to be followed using GPS; bringing a conventional map is also recommended.

Food, Festivals and Events

The annual Mostra Gastronòmica, Comercial i d'Artesans lasts four days. The programme features tastings of typical dishes, wines and cavas from the comarca. If you want to plan a trip around the festival, check the specific event dates. Festa Major Sant Helena takes place around Saint Helena’s feast day on 18 August. Activities include sardanas, dances, a correfoc, theatre, bell-ringing, a surprise festival address and the traditional dance of the giants and devils. Other examples include the Gambarrada, a gathering of cava plaque collectors, ice cream in the street and the La Santa Penya peñas competition.

Can Barba is a venue for evening concerts, with seating for 300 people. The grounds are also home to more than a hundred species of trees and shrubs representative of Catalonia’s vegetation zones. Cabrils therefore offers a range of options, from cultural visits and specific trail choices to geological features and events with different focuses.
