Sant Adrià de Besòs brings together a museum in the Masia de Can Serra, striking industrial architecture and an estuary with two named beaches. For your planning, it is worth keeping these themes distinct: the museum and the commemorative project have different focuses from the history of the bridge or the sensitive coastal landscape.
Museum, Remembrance and Urban History
Since November 20, 2004, the Masia de Can Serra has housed the Museu d’història de la immigració de Catalunya (MhiC). The date marks the museum’s installation in the Masia; its name points to its focus on the history of immigration in Catalonia. Another theme in the culture of remembrance is the Refugi antiaeri de la placeta Macià (RapM): the associated project includes an inclusive museological design intended to convey remembrance. A museum with a regional historical theme and a museological intervention focused on remembrance are therefore presented as distinct cultural themes.
Industrial Architecture and Urban Art
Les Tres Xemeneies of the Central Tèrmica del Besòs consist of more than just chimneys: the complex includes three boiler-and-chimney buildings and a turbine building. The ensemble stands 200 metres high overall and has been protected as a Bé Cultural d'Interès Local (BCIL) since 2016. Its layout, scale and protected status are tangible features that help place the industrial architecture in context. The height refers to the complex as a whole, not to each individual building.
Bosc de columnes offers a different approach to urban design. This graffiti art project, launched in 2016, was created through a collaboration between the town council and the El Generador, Art i Creació Cultural association. It aims to enhance urban spaces and is part of the HOP programme for dance and urban culture. The installation comprises approximately 400 columns, each about five metres high and 2.85 metres in circumference. This makes it possible to consider the project’s artistic context and the scale of its columns separately. Visitors interested in urban culture will find a different focus here than in the industrial buildings.
A Bridge with Several Dates
The Pont dels Passadors also offers a historical sequence: it was built between 1942 and 1944, replacing an iron bridge built in 1885. That earlier bridge was swept away by a flood in 1937. The predecessor, the flood and the construction of the Pont dels Passadors thus mark three distinct stages. Together with the museum and the protected status of the industrial complex, the bridge’s history provides further chronological reference points for a cultural and historical exploration.
Besòs Estuary and Beaches
The final 450 metres of the Besòs River before it flows into the Mediterranean form the La desembocadura zone in Parc Fluvial del Besòs. Sant Adrià de Besòs also has the Platja del Litoral and Platja del Fòrum beaches; the estuary separates them. The beach area beside the estuary is protected and sensitive. Designated sections are intended to allow the dunes to stabilise and promote biodiversity.
In summer, Platja del Litoral and Platja del Fòrum have facilities such as showers, children’s play areas, volleyball nets and accessible paths. These facilities are seasonal; check which ones are planned for the period of your visit. This helps distinguish the seasonal beach facilities from the estuary zone, which is described as available year-round.
The Festa dels Passadors in February
The Festa dels Passadors takes place annually in mid-February, on the weekend closest to February 12, the feast day of Saint Eulàlia. Sunday’s programme includes a parade with the local Diables, Gegants and Castellers, Sardana dancers and other folk culture groups. Details may vary from one edition to the next. If the festival is a key factor in your trip, check the dates for the specific edition rather than relying solely on February 12 as the calendar date.
