La Felipa: Festivals, Cucos, and Routes

La Felipa’s cultural highlights include the San Isidro celebrations and the Cucos; a stage of the Camino de Santiago de Levante also leads to the road to La Felipa. The swimming pool outside the town centre provides another distinct reason to visit. This allows you to plan your trip around different interests: patron saint festivals, rural cultural heritage, hiking, and the municipal pool.

Cuco Culture and Music

In August 2026, the “Música en el Cuco” series was described as an open-air concert cycle in a rural setting. Its stated aim is to revive traditional Cucos and highlight these structures as cultural heritage. For decades, traditional Cucos in the province of Albacete served as shelters for shepherds. By August 2026, the programme had already held three concerts in the Cuco in La Felipa. For travellers interested in cultural history, this combines a concert format with the historical use of Cucos in the province.

Patron Saint Festivals and Local Events

San Isidro Labrador is the patron saint of La Felipa and is celebrated there on 15 May. The San Isidro festivals took place from 15 to 17 May in 2015 and from 15 to 19 May in 2019; the 2015 programme included a traditional mass and a procession. La Felipa is also associated with patron saint celebrations in honour of the Immaculate Conception. The “De la Purísima” programme is listed for 5 to 8 December 2015. The 2021 programme included a bonfire of the Quintos in honour of the Purísima Concepción at 8 pm on 7 December. If you would like to plan your trip around a festival, check the latest dates in advance.

A sporting event also features in the town’s history: on 15 January 2020, La Felipa hosted the provincial individual chess championship for the sixth consecutive year, in the Absolute, Women’s, and Veterans categories.

Hiking Route and Landscape

The Chinchilla–Albacete stage of the GR 239 Camino de Santiago de Levante, listed as open, leads to the road to La Felipa and then continues towards Albacete. Hikers are advised to check route conditions and signage before setting out.

The María Cristina Canal feeds a lagoon in the La Sabina area, beside the road between Valdeganga and La Felipa. This detail about the body of water adds a specific landscape perspective to the route.

The Municipal Swimming Pool

The municipal swimming pool is outside the town centre and can be reached via Avenida Miguel de Cervantes. The facilities include a bar/cafeteria with a terrace. This makes the pool a distinct place to visit, separate from the festival dates and the GR stage. As operating arrangements may change, check the latest conditions before visiting.
