Black sand, a promenade running alongside the GC-500, and a steep climb to a coastal viewpoint give Patalavaca a distinct character. When choosing accommodation, it is worth considering the beach areas and routes you would like to experience during your stay.
Black sand and two beach areas
Playa de Patalavaca is 303 metres long and has black sand. It consists of two beaches that join to form a single beach at low tide. So the character of this stretch of coast is shaped not only by the colour of the sand and the beach’s length, but also by the way the two sections connect at low tide.
Nearby, Anfi del Mar beach offers fine white sand and very calm water. Beach conditions can change with the weather and tides. The contrast between the black sand in Patalavaca and the fine white sand in Anfi del Mar gives you a practical point of reference when choosing between the two coastal locations.
A travel description published in 2024 describes the swimming area at Playa de Patalavaca as marked off by buoys. If this is important for your beach visit, check the markers in person.
Getting there and finding your way around
Playa de Patalavaca can be reached by the Mogán bus route or by car via the C-812. The turn-off is at kilometre 69. Check bus and road connections before your trip so you can plan your journey around your chosen route.
If you would like to visit different parts of the coast, the promenade between Patalavaca and Anfi del Mar provides a named connection between the two places. It runs alongside the GC-500. A description published in 2021 gives its length as 1.5 kilometres; the renovated promenade has an asphalt surface laid by the municipality. As surface conditions can change, check the condition before your walk if this is important to your plans.
Beach activities in Anfi del Mar
Kayaks and pedal boats are available for hire at Anfi del Mar beach. Availability can change, so check before your trip if you plan to take part in either activity. Facilities there include accessibility features, parking, restaurants, showers, toilets and public transport. This information helps you assess what the nearby beach has to offer alongside a quieter coastal experience.
Puerto de Anfi del Mar is also a distinct landmark in the area. The harbour accommodates boats with a maximum length of 20 metres. If you are planning a boat trip, confirm the operating limits before going boating.
The climb to Cruz de Patalavaca
A route description dated 14 April 2021 calls the steep path from the car park just behind the beach the quickest way to Cruz de Patalavaca. The trail conditions described there may change; check them before setting out. The steep climb sets this route apart from a walk along the 1.5-kilometre promenade.
From Cruz de Patalavaca, the coast from Arguineguín to Anfi is visible. Along with the beach and promenade, this offers another way to experience the coastal scenery: from the beach, along the named connection, or from the viewpoint above the beach. Which you choose depends on whether you would like to include a sandy beach, a promenade, or the steep climb in your stay.
