Arguineguín is considered the most important fishing village on the coast. Beaches, various markets and recurring festivals offer different reasons to discover the town. When planning your trip, it is worth considering beach conditions and festival dates separately: swimming conditions depend on the weather and sea conditions, while a visit around mid-July may be shaped by the Fiestas del Carmen.

Beaches with different features

At Playa de Arguineguín, the water is calm and clear; the beach is sheltered from wind and currents. However, weather and sea conditions can still affect swimming conditions. If you plan to swim, take this into account when choosing your travel dates.

Playa Perchel de Arguineguín is 220 metres long and has golden and black sand. The beach is fully accessible and has numerous facilities, including a children's playground. As visitor facilities may change, check their current status before your trip.

Playa de las Marañuelas is an accessible beach with black sand and a length of 279 metres. There are restaurants and bars nearby; these commercial offerings may change over time. The two beaches, Perchel and Marañuelas, can therefore be distinguished by both their length and the colour of their sand.

Markets: food, crafts and second-hand goods

Fresh fruit and vegetables are sold at the Mercadillo Municipal de Arguineguín, along with souvenirs, clothing, jewellery, bags, shoes and accessories. The selection may vary by season and vendor. The market thus combines fresh food with a wide range of other goods.

Crafts are the focus of the Mercadillo Artesanal de Arguineguín, which offers leather goods, ceramics, fashion jewellery and handmade glass figurines. The goods available may vary depending on the market day and vendor.

The Mercado de Segunda Mano – Rastro de Arguineguín offers curiosities made up of second-hand goods. Unlike the craft market, it features pre-owned items; the selection varies by seller and market day. If you want to compare markets, you will find different focuses: fresh food and various goods, crafts or second-hand goods.

Fiestas del Carmen and Bajada de la Rama

The Fiestas del Carmen take place in mid-July in the coastal districts of Arguineguín and Playa de Mogán. Recurring celebrations include a maritime procession featuring festively decorated fishing boats. Grilled fish is associated with the procession. The annual programme may vary; if the festival is a deciding factor in your trip, check the dates and programme details for the relevant year.

Another recurring tradition is the Bajada de la Rama de Arguineguín. It winds through the town's streets to music for three hours, while water is thrown from balconies. The details of this tradition may also vary from year to year.

If a festival is the deciding factor, check the date and annual programme before setting your travel dates.
