Molino Quemado is located on the C-812, about 500 metres from Mogán town centre, and is protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural (Asset of Cultural Interest) ethnological site. The mill is considered the oldest in the comarca and probably the largest on Gran Canaria. It offers a tangible introduction to the town’s heritage; other defining themes include traditional architecture, archaeological sites and the history of the Iglesia de San Antonio de Padua.

Cultural heritage and traditions in Mogán

The Iglesia de San Antonio de Padua is located in Plaza Sarmiento y Coto. Construction began at the end of the 18th century; the plans were commissioned from the sculptor Luján Pérez. Casa del Curato in Mogán is also worth a look for its traditional Canarian architecture: it is considered an example of this style. Together, the church, mill and Casa del Curato offer different ways to explore the area’s architectural and local history, without requiring a joint visit itinerary.

The pilgrimage in honour of San Antonio de Padua includes traditional costumes, offerings and the shepherd’s leap on the ravine slopes. The festival in honour of the saint in Mogán takes place on 13 June. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the current programme in advance, as arrangements and participation details may vary.

Archaeological traces on the coast and in the surrounding area

At Playa de Mogán is the coastal settlement of Lomo de los Gatos, an archaeological complex around 1,600 years old. Throughout the year, the archaeological site offers workshops and activities about the culture of Mogán’s first inhabitants. As the current programme may be relevant to your trip, it is worth checking the dates. Another archaeological site in the area is the Caves of Majada Alta. Anthropomorphic pictograms painted in red ochre have been found inside them.

Hiking: compare duration and difficulty

Mogán’s official trail network lists route R1 Veneguera–Cruz de Mogán as 7.79 kilometres long, with an approximate walking time of three hours and 30 minutes and a low-to-moderate difficulty level. Route R2 Los Azulejos–Los Quemados is shorter at 6.68 kilometres; its estimated duration is also around three hours and 30 minutes, with a moderate-to-high difficulty level. This allows you to compare two routes with different difficulty ratings using the same approximate time estimate. Check the trail network’s latest notices before setting out, as trail conditions may change.

R2 starts on the C-819 from Mogán towards La Aldea. It passes along ravines in the headwaters of the Veneguera Valley, on the southwestern edge of the Inagua-Ojeda-Pajonales massif. It also runs along the boundary of the Inagua Integral Nature Reserve, not through the protected area. The reserve preserves pine forest and the fauna that lives there; access restrictions may apply. This distinction is important for planning your hike: the route described follows the boundary of the protected area.

Rock climbing and coastal experiences

For bouldering, the Los Albarianes area in Mogán includes more than 700 boulders, with grades up to 7c+; individual problems reach up to 8c+. These figures show the wide range of challenges available. Check current access conditions and applicable environmental restrictions before climbing.

Playa de Mogán has fine sand and clear, calm water, with a promenade running along the beach. Water sports equipment, sun loungers and parasols can be rented, although availability may vary seasonally. Mogán Harbour supports nautical tourism with a 275-metre-long dock and 216 berths for pleasure boats. Activities include water sports, boat trips and deep-sea fishing. If you would like to book any of these, check current availability.
