Discover La Lantejuela through two distinct sides: the lagoon and nature observation, as well as religious processions and folk performances. When planning your visit, it is therefore important to decide whether to focus on a nature experience, a cycling trip or a particular festival. The local wetlands, the church and the event dates offer useful points of reference.

Lagoon and Nature Observation

The Laguna del Gobierno is located about 800 metres from the town centre and can be reached by a path. It holds water throughout the year and is suitable for birdwatching tourism. Nature observation includes the flora and fauna living in and around the lagoon, as well as the landscape. A nature-focused learning centre provides space for events, workshops, courses and information sessions; there is also access to a viewpoint on the building’s roof.

The Reserva Natural Complejo Endorreico La Lantejuela is less than three kilometres from La Lantejuela. It lies entirely within the municipality of Osuna. For orientation, distance and municipal boundaries are therefore two separate considerations: its proximity to La Lantejuela does not change the fact that it is located in the municipality of Osuna.

The Ruta de las Lagunas by Bicycle

The Ruta de las Lagunas is a cycling route that starts and ends at the municipal sports centre and visits the endorheic complex. Spring is recommended for the route because the paths are more passable after the winter rainfall. The advice on timing therefore differs: the Laguna del Gobierno holds water year-round, while the passability of the paths after winter is a consideration for the cycling route.

Church and Religious Festivals

The Iglesia Parroquial de la Purísima Concepción is La Lantejuela’s most significant monumental building. You can visit the church during service times; check the schedule before your visit. It is also the starting point for a pilgrimage: the Romería de la Virgen del Carmen sets out from the church on the last weekend in May and heads to the Ermita del Carmen at the nearby Finca de Los Matones.

Holy Week includes annual processions on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. Nazarenos and women wearing mantillas take part, and processional marches accompany the parades. The Velá de Nuestra Señora del Carmen takes place around 16 July and includes a procession through the streets of La Lantejuela. Both occasions are religious in nature, but take place at different times of the year.

Festivals and the Best Time to Visit

Festivals are held every year in February, featuring a competition, other contests, parades, performances and the traditional Chorizada. The Feria y Fiestas Patronales takes place around the feast of the Virgen del Rosario and includes flamenco, copla and other folk performances. The festivals therefore differ both in timing and in their programme.

If you want to plan your stay around a particular event, check its exact date in advance. The information also offers different guidance for nature observation and cycling: the Laguna del Gobierno holds water throughout the year, while spring is recommended for the Ruta de las Lagunas.
