The clock tower of El Viso del Alcor’s former town hall stands in Plaza del Ayuntamiento: neo-Gothic, dating from the mid-19th century, and with a clock facing the square. Together with churches, monastic buildings, culinary experiences and celebrations rooted in the annual calendar, the town offers various starting points for planning a trip.

Churches, a monastery and historic houses

The parish church of Santa María del Alcor was built between 1470 and the beginning of the 16th century on the site of a former Franciscan hermitage. It is designed in the Hispano-Mudéjar style and has three naves. Its construction period and predecessor building are two specific clues to the history of this church site.

The monastery of the Discalced Mercedarians of Corpus Christi was built between 1604 and 1617. The surviving complex includes the cloister, the monastery staircase and the church. The Chapel of the Rosary shows another kind of historical change: it is located in the former Casa de los Pájaros building, which was used to store grain. Its use as a chapel and its former function as a storehouse describe two different uses of the same building.

The historic town centre is home to grand houses dating from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Together with the neo-Gothic clock tower and the Hispano-Mudéjar parish church, they offer different architectural features and periods to guide a visit focused on cultural history.

Celebrations in May and September

Recurring celebrations also shape the town’s cultural calendar. The Festival de Cante Grande has been held in September since 1980. Santa Cruz has been celebrated in El Viso del Alcor in May since time immemorial; its origins date back to the same time as the town’s. If you want to plan your trip around one of these celebrations, check the exact event dates in advance.

Olive oil and Menudo

The Centro Cultural del Olivo Juan Antonio Morillo Ruiz – Basilippo offers a visitor experience in El Viso del Alcor centred on extra virgin olive oil. The Oleotasting includes a tour of parts of the facilities and the olive grove, followed by a guided tasting of extra virgin olive oils. Tours are offered to individuals, couples, companies and groups of any kind and size. As booking conditions may change, it is best to check them before making a reservation.

The “Menudo es el Viso” food guide offers a different culinary focus. Launched in June 2025, it directs tourists to 23 restaurants and bars in El Viso del Alcor serving Menudo, a dish typical of the town. Participating establishments may change, so check which venues are currently taking part before making plans. The olive oil tasting and Menudo guide offer two clearly distinct ways to explore the local cuisine: a guided tasting experience and a selection of venues serving the typical dish.

Circular trail, greenway and exercise

The Sendero Mágico de los Alcores is a circular hiking trail. Its route information lists Calle Arroyo, by the motorhome area of Parque de La Muela, as the starting and ending point. A report from March 2023 described a permanent calisthenics area with multifunctional exercise equipment at Parque de La Muela. Check the condition of the area before visiting.

Another option to consider when planning is the Vía Verde de Los Alcores, which runs near El Viso del Alcor and connects Alcalá de Guadaíra with Carmona. While the Sendero Mágico is described as a circular hiking trail, the Vía Verde connects two named places. If you plan to use the greenway, check the specific access points locally.
