The main part of the Čelo Open-Air Museum consists of a 200-metre-long trench. Kal-Koritnica is also the starting point for a marked trail up Svinjak; a monument in the village commemorates those who fell at the Golobar mountain pasture. Both hiking and tangible traces of history are therefore central here.

Trails and timing

Two trails marked with Walk of Peace signposts lead from Kal-Koritnica to the Čelo Open-Air Museum. The ascent is estimated to take about half an hour. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

The marked trail to Svinjak starts in Kal-Koritnica and climbs from the meadows into the forest. The route is described as a five-hour round trip: three hours are allowed for the ascent and two for the descent. The duration may vary depending on conditions. The time estimates differ considerably: Čelo takes about half an hour to reach uphill, while the five-hour estimate for Svinjak covers the round trip.

Military history and remembrance

The Čelo Open-Air Museum is located on the slopes of Svinjak and features Austro-Hungarian fortifications. The 200-metre-long trench connects two gun emplacements, a kitchen, an observation post, sleeping quarters and a shelter. This makes visible not only the fortifications but also the sequence of observation, accommodation and supply areas.

The 1,557-metre-high Javoršček was also an important Austro-Hungarian defensive position. The route from Kal-Koritnica to the mountain follows the Walk of Peace signposts towards Golobar.

A monument in the village commemorates those who fell at the Golobar mountain pasture. The local community maintains it and organises commemorative events; dates may vary.

River, fishing and other activities

Ribiška hiša offers an interactive exhibition on fly fishing. Visitors can try out the basics at a specially set-up practice pond. This combines an interactive introduction to the subject with a practical experience.

A themed educational trail runs alongside the emerald-green Soča River. Its stops provide information about nature, fish species and the importance of environmental protection. The thematic focus thus extends beyond fishing to include protecting the river environment.

A moderately difficult mountain biking circuit runs from Bovec via Kal-Koritnica and Čezsoča and back to Bovec. Kal-Koritnica is on the route; the circuit starts and finishes in Bovec.

The Kal-Koritnica sport climbing area has 33 routes graded from 4a+ to 7b. From the car park on the main road in the village, a 10- to 15-minute trail leads to the climbing area. The number of routes and their grades provide a specific overview of the climbing on offer.

Kal-Koritnica is listed as a stop on the Bovec–Lepena Hut bus route. Check the timetable and departure times before travelling, as services and departures may change.
