The trail to the multi-tiered Globoški potok waterfall starts in Žaga. The easy out-and-back route is 3 km long and takes about an hour in total. The starting point is at a bridge about 1 km before the center of Žaga; along the way, the route offers views of Žaga and the deep, steep Učja Gorge. Allow about 20 additional minutes if you include the upper waterfalls. This means you can plan the basic hike with or without the extra visit to the upper waterfalls. Difficulty and trail conditions can change after weather events; walking time also depends on conditions and personal pace.

Waterfalls and Scenery

Boka Waterfall is in the vicinity of Žaga. It is 144 meters high and 18 meters wide, and is considered Slovenia’s most voluminous waterfall. The two waterfalls offer different considerations for planning: for Globoški potok, the focus is on the hiking route and walking time; for Boka, it is the waterfall’s dimensions and volume of water. The Učja Valley, also in the vicinity, is part of the Natura 2000 network.

Hiking: A Short Loop or a Longer Stage

Near Žaga, the Juliana Trail leads to a viewpoint below Boka Waterfall. Check trail conditions and possible temporary detours before setting out. Another hiking option is the Kobarid–Bovec stage of the Juliana Trail: it is 22 km long and rated easy. Compared with the roughly one-hour Globoški loop, this is a considerably longer route; this can help you choose between a short loop and a longer stage. The Alpe Adria Trail can also be hiked from Bovec to Globoški potok. For this long-distance trail, too, check the route for temporary detours.

Cycling and Other Activities

For cycling, the Stol Route leads from Žaga toward Učja Pass. The Stol Tour follows a scenic ridge trail on Mount Stol; the Stol mountain bike route runs through Žaga. Route conditions may vary seasonally, as may the markings on the Stol mountain bike route. Check the latest route information before setting out.

In the vicinity of Žaga, Zipline Canyon Učja offers a ride across ten zip lines. The individual zip lines are 250 to 600 meters long and run up to 250 meters above the ground. Before booking, check the participation requirements, as information from the operator may change.

A Monument in the Village Center

In the village center, the monument Spomenik žrtvam NOB na Žagi stands on the main road between Žaga and Bovec. It features a list of 21 wartime victims. The sculptor Negovan Nemec created the monument; it was unveiled on July 22, 1978. Its location, commemorative list, creator and date give this memorial a specific historical context. If you would like to include a cultural focus alongside hiking and nature destinations, the monument offers a distinct point of interest.
