The year 1775, inscribed on a ceiling beam at the Pocarjeva domačija, is a tangible historical reference point in Zgornja Radovna. If you are looking for a hotel in Zgornja Radovna, you can explore the area through two interests: rural cultural heritage and craftsmanship, or a landscape shaped by hummocky meadows.

Cultural Heritage at the Farmstead and Mill

The Pocarjeva domačija is a cultural monument of national importance, representing folk architecture in Triglav National Park, and is furnished as a museum. The year 1775 is inscribed on a ceiling beam. A guide welcomes visitors there and tells the story of the Pocar family; access may vary seasonally. Take the season into account when planning your visit. Folk architecture, the museum furnishings and the story of the family show different aspects of the same farmstead.

Another part of the local cultural heritage is the Psnakova žaga in mlin, a sawmill and mill. Both are located below the Gogala farmstead and 300 metres from the source of the Radovna. Waterwheels power a millstone and a Venetian saw. The site therefore also brings the technical side of the cultural heritage to life: here, waterwheels power both a mill and a saw.

Natural Monument and Hummocky Meadows

Gogalova Lipa broadens the focus from built heritage to natural heritage. It is designated a natural monument in Zgornja Radovna and is believed to be more than 400 years old.

The Radovna Valley lies in Triglav National Park, between the slopes of Mežakla and Pokljuka, and is characterised by hummocky meadows. In Zgornja Radovna, the national park manages two hummocky meadows covering a total area of 3.5 hectares. Their domed shape was formed by deposits of glacial till. Till is material deposited by a glacier; its deposits explain the shape of the terrain. The area figure covers both meadows; the species count refers to one of the hummocky meadows.

A botanical survey recorded around 120 plant species on one hummocky meadow in Zgornja Radovna. This brings together two perspectives on this type of meadow: its geological formation and its botanically recorded plant diversity. The Radovna is also part of the local geography: in Zgornja Radovna, the river re-emerges at the surface.

Connections Through the Valley

A road through the Radovna Valley connects Zgornja Radovna with Mojstrana and Bled. A cycle path also runs through the valley, with information boards introducing visitors to the local cultural heritage. The road links the named places, while the boards along the cycle path focus on culture. Trails from the Krma Valley also reach the hamlet of Zgornja Radovna: two trails meet there and merge into one.
