From the centre of Kranjska Gora, you can reach Lake Jasna in just a few minutes on foot. There, you can use the jetties and walking paths.

Nature by the lake and in the surrounding area

Part of Kranjska Gora extends into Triglav National Park. The Zelenci Nature Reserve is nearby and is designated as a Natura 2000 site. It includes the source of the Sava Dolinka and the Drni marshes. A well-maintained forest path and a wooden footbridge lead visitors to Zelenci; a lookout tower nearby offers views of the emerald-green lake and the Ponce mountains.

Kranjska Gora offers more than 20 marked routes for hikes and walks. Conditions on individual routes may vary. Together with the short walk from the town centre to Lake Jasna, these routes provide a range of nature experiences, although they do not all start from the same place.

Architecture and history

Liznjek House was built in the second half of the 17th century. The house features elements of rural Baroque architecture from the 18th and early 19th centuries. Since its renovation in 1983, it has operated as an ethnological museum. The house’s construction date and its later architectural features belong to different historical periods.

Another historical connection lies along the road over Vršič Pass: it connects Kranjska Gora with Log in Trenta and was built by Russian prisoners of war during the First World War. The road is also known as the “Russian Road.” Nearby are the Russian Chapel and the grave of a Russian soldier, both memorials connected to Russian soldiers and the First World War.

In the surrounding area, in Mojstrana, the permanent exhibition at the Slovenian Alpine Museum focuses on preparations for mountaineering, mountain huts and summit ascents. After visiting the museum, visitors can also solve puzzles and codes, avoid mountain-themed traps and escape to a bivouac. Check the availability of this activity before your trip.

Guided experiences and active days

The guided visit to KekÄŤeva deĹľela starts in Kranjska Gora; a special bus takes you to the attraction. Activities there include a ride on the Bedancbus, slides, a high-level trail through the treetops and a secret tunnel. Misija Eliksir offers a different focus: this 90-minute outdoor escape room experience in Triglav National Park combines logic and skill-based puzzles with following a map. Participants pick up the equipment and initial instructions in Kranjska Gora.

Mountain biking and skiing days also have different character. Bike Park Kranjska Gora has been open since 2004 and is Slovenia’s oldest mountain bike park. Its trails cover all experience and technical skill levels; the elevation difference is about 300 metres. The Vitranc 1 four-seat chairlift takes visitors to the top of the park, while the Brsnina lift serves the Brsnina Trails, which are also suitable for beginners. As the lift configuration may change, check which lifts are operating before your visit.

The Kranjska Gora ski resort has 21 ski runs of varying technical difficulty; their availability is seasonal. When weighing up hiking, mountain biking and skiing, consider both the different types of activity and the seasonal availability of the ski runs. This will help you better match your planned experiences to your travel dates.

Accommodation and regional cuisine

When choosing accommodation in Kranjska Gora, it helps to group your excursions by starting point: Lake Jasna is just a few minutes’ walk from the centre, the guided visit to Kekčeva dežela starts in town, and participants pick up equipment and initial instructions for Misija Eliksir there. Zelenci and the museum in Mojstrana are in the surrounding area. The themes you want to shape your stay can therefore serve as a first guide when searching for hotels.

Regional cuisine can also be part of your travel plans: in the wider Kranjska Gora area, local family-run inns serve local specialities, including various types of carp. This culinary focus adds a distinct regional perspective to the nature, culture and activities on offer.
