Vransko’s market square is one kilometre from the Ljubljana–Celje motorway section. The town brings together a parish church mentioned in 1123, a 19th-century market house, two distinct collections and several trails with clearly stated distances. If you are considering Vransko as a destination for a stay, you can focus on local history, technology or outdoor activities.

Church and the town’s history

St. Michael’s Parish Church in Vransko was first mentioned in 1123. It has a marble altar, a work by the renowned sculptor F. Robba. The church’s long history and its artwork provide two distinct historical points of reference. Vransko itself also developed along the old Roman road between Emona and Celeia. A visit to the town can therefore be set in the historical context of its former location on this route.

Schwentnerjeva hiša and TIC Vransko

Schwentnerjeva hiša is a distinctive two-storey market house dating from the mid-19th century. It is the birthplace of the publisher of the Slovenian Modernist movement, Lavoslav Schwentner, and one of Vransko’s central cultural institutions. Almost all of the apartment’s furnishings have been preserved, illustrating domestic life at the turn of the 20th century. Its architecture, furnishings and connection to Schwentner make the house a destination in its own right for anyone interested in cultural history.

TIC Vransko is located in the former storeroom of Schwentnerjeva hiša. It provides information about the natural and cultural heritage, events and leisure opportunities in the Municipality of Vransko. The former storeroom also serves as an event space. If you are planning to attend a particular event, check the current programme in advance.

Collections: crafts and motorcycles

An ethnological collection is located at the pri Knežari farm on the local Brode–Vransko road. It mainly displays agricultural and craft tools and preserves a complete blacksmith’s workshop. Some of the tools in the workshop are more than 200 years old. The focus is on work tools and traditional crafts.

Muzej motociklov GROM offers a different perspective on technology. Its collection includes more than 150 restored motorcycles from Europe and around the world; the number in the collection may change. If the exact size of the collection matters to you, check the current figure before your visit. The museum is at Vransko 29, 3305 Vransko, Slovenia. Free parking is available directly at the museum; check this information before travelling.

Compare trails by distance

The three trails described differ considerably in length and route. The Schwentnerjeva walking trail is 4.3 kilometres long. It starts at Schwentnerjeva hiša, goes from Vransko via Videm, Prapreče and Tabor, and returns to Vransko. The Church-to-Church Trail is 27.8 kilometres long and also starts and ends in Vransko.

At 14.9 kilometres, V2 – Po poti vranske kulturne dediščine falls between these two distances. The route goes from Vransko via Tešova, Brode, where there is a hop field, Stopnik, Prekopa, Čeplje and Brode, and back to Vransko. The distances let you compare the length of the trails; the sequence of places shows which names are included in each description. Trail descriptions may be updated, so it is advisable to check the relevant route before setting off.

Events and sport

Every year on Shrove Saturday, a carnival procession passes through Vransko’s market square at 2 pm. The date of Shrove Saturday changes each year; check the specific date if you plan to include the event in your trip. On Easter Saturday, Easter foods and eggs are presented at a stand in the market square. This is followed by a tasting and a social gathering at the stand. You should also check the specific date for this event in advance.

Sport climbing is offered at Športna dvorana Vransko. The sports hall is accessible to people with reduced mobility. As participation requirements may change, contact the venue in advance to ask about current options if you are interested. This keeps the activity and the accessibility information clearly distinguished.

Vransko offers a variety of themes to explore, from the parish church and Schwentnerjeva hiša to crafts, motorcycles and trails of different lengths.
