The historic park surrounding the Neogotický kaštieľ is the largest continuous green space in the city of Galanta. It offers visitors opportunities for a short break and provides a setting for one of the city’s distinctive historic buildings. Its present-day appearance dates back to a Neo-Gothic renovation in 1861. Here, you encounter two sides of the same place: the park as a green space for a brief respite, and the castle as a testament to a specific phase of construction.
Castles, Church and City History
The Renesančný kaštieľ is also one of Galanta’s most significant historic monuments. Extensive heritage restoration work from 1980 to 1992 made the building accessible to the public. Another glimpse into Galanta’s history can be found in the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Stephen the King. It was built between 1797 and 1800 and consecrated in 1805. The Pamätná izba Zoltána Kodálya focuses on key milestones and achievements in the life of the acclaimed composer.
The permanent Pamätná izba Karola Duchoňa offers another musical perspective: an exhibition in honour of the musician and pop singer. Its contents include awards, an authentic painting by Barbora Didovová and extensive photographic documentation. Alongside it, the permanent exhibition Izba starých gramofónov a šelakových platní is dedicated to a collection by Kristián Takács. The memorial rooms and the collection offer different perspectives: the former focus on life milestones and memorabilia, while the latter features old gramophones and shellac records.
Events and Wine
Since its sixth edition, Galantské trhy has been held under the patronage of the city of Galanta. Vínna ulička, located on the grounds of the Neogotický kaštieľ in the city park, is an annual part of the market.
