Komjatice offers several distinct reasons to stay: Štrkáreň, a large body of water; a protected castle park; religious buildings; and a nature reserve. When planning accommodation, it helps to first sort out your own interests: Would you like to focus on swimming and fishing, explore parks and leisure activities, or learn about architectural and natural history? Local highlights range from a guest fishing permit to a Rococo pulpit and protected plant and animal life.

Water and nature in Komjatice

Štrkáreň Komjatice is a 45-hectare body of water with islands and a maximum depth of 18 metres. The area and depth figures indicate different measurements: 45 hectares describes its extent, while 18 metres is its maximum depth. Conditions are suitable for swimming. Visitors can also purchase a guest fishing permit at Štrkáreň. This makes the water a destination for two specific activities: swimming and fishing, with a guest fishing permit required for fishing.

Another natural highlight is the protected Kňazova jama–Torozlín Nature Reserve in the Komjatice area. A total of 62 plant species have been recorded there; its fauna also includes the European pond turtle, whose occurrence is unique in Slovakia. The number of plant species and the special note about the European pond turtle give the natural environment its own character alongside Štrkáreň.

Castle Park and a Remarkable Tree Measurement

Komjatice Castle Park is a protected site covering 64,929 m²; it was designated as protected in 1984. Alongside its protected status, the park serves a recreational purpose: it offers residents and visitors opportunities for relaxation, entertainment and short leisure activities. Facilities mentioned include a children’s playground, a pavilion, a fountain and benches along the paths. The park therefore combines historical significance with practical leisure amenities.

A single plane tree also makes the park noteworthy: its trunk circumference at breast height is 930 cm. The measurement height is part of the figure and helps put it in context: it refers to the circumference of the trunk at breast height. Thus, alongside the park’s area, there is also a precise measurement of one of its trees.

Churches and Calvary: Comparing Architectural History

The Church of St. Elizabeth is a late Baroque building. It was built between 1751 and 1755 on the site of an older medieval church. Inside are three altars and a Rococo pulpit dating from the late 18th century. The construction date and the furnishings therefore point to different periods: the church was built in the mid-18th century, while the pulpit dates from the later part of that century.

Komjatice Calvary also offers specific historical details. It comprises a five-figure Crucifixion group with the Holy Sepulchre, dating from the mid-18th century. The Calvary’s Stations of the Cross, by contrast, date from around the turn of the 20th century. This difference in dates helps distinguish the Crucifixion group from the Stations of the Cross. The Church of St. Peter and Paul is another of the town’s religious buildings: it is an important architectural monument and is included on the list of immovable monuments.
