Sixteen manor houses from the original group have survived to this day in the historic center of Liptovský Ján. Together with the Gothic church and an exhibition at the Svätojánske Museum, they create a clear focus on cultural history. Teplica, educational trails and Stanišovská Cave add themes of springs, nature and caves.

Springs and Educational Trails

Jánska Valley begins in the spa town of Liptovský Ján. Teplica is the only spring in Liptovský Ján used both for drinking and bathing. Its mineral water is 20 °C and has proven healing properties. The way it is used and its temperature give the spring a distinctive character.

The educational trail to the Medokýš mineral spring connects Liptovská Porúbka, Liptovský Ján and Liptovský Hrádok. Six information panels cover biodiversity, the history of the surrounding villages and traditional activities. The trail thus connects nature with regional history and traditional ways of working. While Teplica focuses on the use of the spring, the Medokýš educational trail covers several different topics.

The Brána do Jánskej doliny educational trail starts next to the parking lot of the Liptovský dvor resort in Jánska Valley, near Liptovský Ján. Its starting point is therefore anchored to a specific location in the valley region.

Manor Houses, Church and Museum

The 16 surviving manor houses come from the original group in the historic center. They give the town’s history a distinctive architectural focus. It is important to note that not just one house, but 16 manor houses from this group have survived.

The Roman Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist in Liptovský Ján was built in the Gothic style and received the “Cultural Monument of the Year” award in 2023. The Svätojánske Museum features an exhibition about the Sentiványi family of Liptovský Ján.

The church and museum offer two different perspectives on cultural history: the church represents Gothic religious architecture, while the exhibition explores the history of a family connected with Liptovský Ján. Together with the manor houses, they provide more than just a single perspective on the town’s history.

Cave Visit and Getting There

Stanišovská Cave is 410 meters long, and a visit takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes. This is a guide for planning your day, not a minute-by-minute schedule. The cave is explored without electric lighting, using a headlamp and accompanied by an experienced guide. The duration and format of the visit give cave exploration a clear place in your stay.

Bus route 505415 connects Liptovský Mikuláš, Uhorská Ves and Liptovský Ján. If you plan to travel by bus, check the timetable for your chosen travel date so you can take suitable connections into account.

When looking for hotels in Liptovsky Jan, use the focus of your trip as your first filter: local history and architecture, springs and educational trails, or a guided cave visit. This helps you tailor your search to the kind of stay you have planned.
