Ľubeľa lies in the southern part of the Liptov Basin, in the Kľačianka valley, on a floodplain and on an alluvial fan at the foot of the Low Tatras. The valley floor and mountain edge give the village a clearly defined landscape setting. The blue-marked N2401 educational cycling route from Vlkolínec to Pribylina also passes through Ľubeľa. A floodplain is a flat area of a valley; an alluvial fan is a landform at the foot of a mountain range. In Ľubeľa, the floodplain refers to the Kľačianka valley and the alluvial fan to the foot of the Low Tatras. Spruce forest dominates the southern mountainous part, with meadows in some places.

Landscape and Location of Ľubeľa

The southern mountainous part of Ľubeľa’s territory is predominantly covered with spruce forest, with meadows in some places. The Kľačianka stream flows through the area and rises in Liptovské Kľačany. There are also mineral springs there.

The territory of the Low Tatras National Park extends over only a very small area along the southern edge of the cadastral territory; protection level three applies there. If you plan to visit sensitive areas, check the current zoning in advance. This ensures that the protection status is taken into account when planning, without implying that the National Park covers the entire village territory.

Cycling Route and Sporting Connections

The blue-marked N2401 educational cycling route from Vlkolínec to Pribylina passes through Ľubeľa.

Tennis is also among the village’s sporting activities. On 31 August 2024, two tennis courts were officially opened in Ľubeľa. They were intended for pupils, young people, the public and visitors.

Village Bell Towers, Festival and Remembrance

Two village bell towers offer a tangible architectural comparison. The masonry tower is a simple, whitewashed square structure with a wooden upper section and a hipped roof. The other is a traditional square wooden structure with an open upper floor and a pyramidal spire. Both share a square ground plan and serve as village bell towers. In the masonry tower, the material changes from whitewashed masonry to a wooden upper section; the open upper floor of the traditional tower is also made of wood.

The amateur theatre festival Ľubeľafest, held every year in July in Ľubeľa, is part of the local culture. If you are travelling to Ľubeľafest, check the specific event date in advance.

Another part of local history lies in Ľubeľská dolina: its crystalline bedrock contains antimony mineralisation and former mines. Antimony mineralisation refers to deposits of antimony-bearing minerals in crystalline bedrock; the former mines point to past mining activity in the valley. A more recent form of public remembrance is the reconstructed monument to the Slovak National Uprising (SNP) in front of the cultural centre. It was officially unveiled on 1 April 2026.
