Prosiek lies below the eastern part of the Chočské vrchy and at the entrance to Prosiecka dolina. The 3.5-kilometre-long karst valley emerges near Prosiek. The landscape and local history give the destination two distinct highlights: paths through the valleys on the one hand, and the historic church and other cultural monuments on the other.

When planning, it is worth distinguishing between the different route lengths. The length of the valley and the figures given for a valley circuit do not describe the same route. Prosiek and Kvačany serve as starting points for Prosiecka dolina and Kvačianska dolina.

Hiking between the two valleys

The Prosiek – Veľké Borové – Oblazy – Kvačany circuit connects Prosiecka dolina with Kvačianska dolina. It is about 17.6 kilometres long and has nearly 700 metres of elevation gain. The circuit can be completed in one day; this does not specify an exact walking time. By comparison, Prosiecka dolina itself is described as 3.5 kilometres long. The two figures help distinguish the valley from the larger circuit in terms of scale.

An educational trail through Prosiecka dolina and Kvačianska dolina has twelve stops. Information panels cover geographical, biological and historical topics. At the end of the village of Prosiek, near the entrance to Prosiecka dolina, there is a paid car park that serves as a starting point for hikers and visitors to the valley. Parking options may vary seasonally; check the current conditions before travelling.

Cycling route and choice of tour

The blue-marked cycle route No. 2407 passes directly through Prosiek. It is about 2.8 kilometres long and runs along field and forest paths. Check the markings on site before relying on the route. For a longer cycle tour, the circuit via Veľké Borové, Oblazy and Kvačany is an option on a different scale: it connects the two valleys, is about 17.6 kilometres long and has nearly 700 metres of elevation gain. Before cycling, you should also check the current route conditions.

This lets you choose according to the planned tour: the shorter cycling route passes through Prosiek, while the circuit connects both valleys. The figures illustrate the difference in length; the circuit has nearly 700 metres of elevation gain. They describe specific route characteristics, not walking or cycling times.

Church, manor house and archaeological history

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Elizabeth in Prosiek was built around the turn of the 14th century and was first mentioned in 1397. Its present appearance took shape over several later phases: the church was enlarged in 1826, its façade was given a neoclassical design in 1880, and a western tower was added in 1927. This makes it possible to distinguish the early building history from the later changes.

The Hrádok archaeological site is located at the entrance to Prosiecka dolina. It is protected as a national cultural monument and includes fortifications dating from the Iron Age and the Middle Ages. The manor house of Prosiek originally dates from the late 16th century; it was later remodelled in the Classicist style. It is a ruin. The church, archaeological site and manor house complement the landscape highlights with different periods of local history.

If you are looking for hotels in Prosiek, you can make your choice based on your planned focus: the valleys and tours, or local history.
