Radaljska Banja and the River

The Radaljska reka flows through Radalj along its entire length; Radaljska Banja lies alongside the river. It is located at the foot of Jagodnja and next to the regional road to Krupanj. The water at the spa has a high sulphur content. Radaljska Banja lies in a small oasis of peace and quiet amid unspoilt nature.

River Landscape, Lake and Forest

For most of its course, which is about 10 kilometres long, the Radaljska reka runs from its source to its mouth along the wooded slopes of Boranja, with gorge-like features in places. A route documented in 2017 leads from the vicinity of Radaljska Banja to the Danilova kosa nature reserve. The reserve protects a native mountain beech forest community with trees more than 200 years old. The stretch of river and the protected area offer different natural highlights: an extensive wooded route and a particularly old beech forest.

A description published in 2011 presents Radaljsko jezero as a small artificial lake up to 20 metres deep, with waters rich in trout. The Radalj–Stolice road runs through the valley of the Radaljska reka and leads to Radaljska Banja and Radaljsko jezero.

Road Connections for Orientation

A road runs through Radalj and connects the municipalities of Mali Zvornik and Krupanj. The Radalj–Stolice road is another specific landmark: it follows the valley of the Radaljska reka and leads to the spa and the lake. The information answers different orientation questions: one identifies the connection between the municipalities, while the other places two destinations along the valley route. If you are planning a specific journey, it is worth briefly checking current road conditions.

Springs and Development

Radaljska Banja was established in 1988 with the construction of a dam for a small hydroelectric power plant; the plant began operating in 1995. The two dates mark different stages: construction of the dam and the later start of the plant’s operations. Viline Vode spring in Radalj is considered a healing water source.

The main spring, Slatina, lies on the left bank of the Crni Radalj. A measurement published in 2011 gives its flow rate as 0.3 litres per second and its water temperature as 24°C. Spring measurements of this kind may change.

Geology and Seasonal Notes

There are substantial granite deposits at several locations in Radalj. A building also bears a connection to this rock: a church in Radalj was built from Radalj granite.

A tourism study published in 2011 lists walks through centuries-old forests as an option for visitors. The study published in 2011 lists sledging and skiing as winter activities for visitors; the forest walks offer a different seasonal highlight.
