Radiolândia – Museu do Rádio makes an unusually clear cultural statement: the museum is dedicated exclusively to radio, making it the only one of its kind in Portugal. It is based on Manuel Silva’s private collection, which includes some of the rarest and most important radios of the 20th century. Its clear focus makes radio itself the guiding thread of the visit.
The museum includes a visitor route with step-free access, ramps, adapted toilets and a lift. If these facilities are important to you, check the latest accessibility information before your visit.
Music, architectural history and rural traditions
The Museu de Etnomúsica da Bairrada focuses on the musical heritage created and lived by the Bairrada community over generations. Its collections include musical instruments, handwritten documents, visual recordings, oral history testimony, textiles, and sound recording, playback, broadcasting and audio equipment. The range extends from instruments and technology to images and inherited voices. Here, music can also be seen as part of the community’s collective memory. Guided visits are available on request; if you are planning a tour, confirm the current arrangements before your visit.
Cerâmica Rocha is a notable example of early 20th-century industrial architecture in Bairrada. The historic building was constructed entirely from solid red-clay bricks in 1902. Its year of construction and materials give this architectural reference a concrete form: its history is shaped not only by its date but also by its construction.
Other historic landmarks include the 17th-century Igreja Matriz da Mamarrosa and the Museu de Arte Sacra de S. Pedro da Palhaça, housed in the former Igreja de S. Pedro da Palhaça. The region’s rural economic heritage is also present: several watermills and oil mills remain in the agricultural area of Oliveira do Bairro. Watermills were used to grind grain into flour; oil mills processed olives into olive oil. The two types of mill represent different stages of agricultural processing.
Taste and discover Bairrada
Oliveira do Bairro is part of the Bairrada region and the Rota da Bairrada. The area is associated with a culinary tradition that includes Leitão à Bairrada, Cabidela, Feijoada de Leitão, Chanfana and Rojões à moda da Bairrada. Winegrowing is another regional hallmark: Oliveira do Bairro belongs to a wine-producing area associated with Bairrada wines and sparkling wines.
At Espaço Bairrada, visitors can taste and buy wines, local handicrafts and regional products. Visits to cellars and wineries in the region can also be arranged there. If you are planning a tasting or one of these visits, check the latest arrangements before travelling.
Nature watching in Vale do Cértoma
White storks can be observed in Vale do Cértoma in Oliveira do Bairro. The Rota das Cegonhas is also presented as a visitor route. There are several picnic parks in the area. Alongside museums, buildings and regional traditions, nature watching and picnic spots therefore offer different ways to plan a visit.
