The Museum of Zakynthos offers an art-historical perspective spanning the 15th to the 19th century. Other discoveries include protected natural areas, viewpoints and local products. The following places each have their own focus, ranging from collections and historical remembrance to landscapes, cheese-making and ferry services.

Art, Remembrance and Views

The Museum of Zakynthos displays works of the Cretan School, Cretan-Ionian icons and works of Ionian Naturalism. The collection thus encompasses several clearly identified artistic movements from the 15th to the 19th century. For travellers interested in art and icons, it offers a specific cultural focus.

The mausoleum on the ground floor of the Museum of Solomos and Eminent Zakynthians offers a different focus. Since 1968, it has housed the remains of the national poets Andreas Kalvos and Dionysios Solomos. Alongside the works of art, remembrance of these two named poets is therefore among Zakynthos' cultural themes.

Zakynthos Castle also combines history and views: it is an important historical monument and offers panoramic views of Zakynthos town and the Ionian Sea. Unlike the museum collections, here the historic site and views of the town and sea are the shared focus.

Natural Sites and Different Perspectives

The Blue Caves are located in the Aspros Vrachos area at Cape Skinari. Lake Keri, by contrast, is notable for its protected-area designations: it is a wetland protected under the Ramsar Convention, a Natura site and a nature reserve within the Zakynthos National Marine Park. This classification makes its protected status a specific point of interest for travellers interested in protected natural areas.

The Keri Lighthouse is known for its panoramic views of the Ionian Sea and the Myzithres rocks at sunset. The two nature and landscape themes are therefore quite distinct: at Lake Keri, protected status shapes how the place is viewed; at the lighthouse, the focus is on views of the sea and rocks.

Volimes: History, Cheese and Ferry Services

Historical, culinary and maritime themes come together in Volimes. Agios Georgios sta Gremna Monastery was founded in 1535. The year of its founding gives this historical monument a specific point of reference in time and adds a different perspective on Zakynthos to the themes of nature and views.

Zakynthian Ladotyri is made in dairies and home workshops in Volimes and offered as a local product. This makes the cheese a specific culinary point of interest for your trip. If you are looking for it, check current availability; individual producers may change.

The port of Agios Nikolaos in Volimes is a seaport access point and connects Zakynthos to Kefalonia by ferry. If the ferry connection is important for your plans, check the timetable in advance.
