Vasilikos (also known as Vasiliko) is a small, picturesque resort 15.5 kilometers southeast of Zakynthos Town.

Beaches Nearby

Nearby beaches include Gerakas, Porto Roma, Agios Nikolaos, Banana, Porto Zoro and Kaminia. You can swim, sunbathe and enjoy water sports there; many of the beaches have good facilities. If beach activities are a key consideration when choosing where to stay, these options provide a concrete guide. Beach organization and facilities may change, so if you have specific expectations, it is worth checking the current situation at each beach.

Nature and Conservation in the Municipality

The protected island of Pelouzo lies within the municipality. The loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) breeds there. This is a distinct natural and protected-area feature within the municipality. The Zakynthos National Marine Park information center or research station is also nearby, in Gerakas–Vasilikos. The facility began operating in 2014. If you are planning a visit, please check in advance whether visitors currently have access.

More Natural Attractions on Zakynthos

The wider destination of Zakynthos offers further natural attractions. The Blue Caves are in the Aspros Vrachos area at Cape Skinari. Lake Keri is a wetland protected under the Ramsar Convention, a Natura site and a nature reserve within the Zakynthos National Marine Park. These examples represent different natural features: the caves at the cape and the multiply protected landscape of Lake Keri. The Keri Lighthouse is another notable landmark on the island. It is known for panoramic views of the Ionian Sea and the Myzithres rocks at sunset.

Art, History and Local Products

For art history, the Zakynthos Museum displays works of the Cretan School, Cretan-Ionian icons and works of Ionian Naturalism from the 15th to the 19th century. The Museum of Solomos and Eminent Zakynthians has a different focus: since 1968, its ground-floor mausoleum has housed the remains of the national poets Andreas Kalvos and Dionysios Solomos. The Agios Georgios sta Gremna Monastery in Volimes was founded in 1535. Zakynthos’s cultural attractions thus range from artworks spanning several centuries to a historic monastery and the commemoration of two poets.

Volimes is also associated with Zakynthian Ladotyri cheese, which is made there in dairies and home workshops and sold as a local product. Another point of interest is the port of Agios Nikolaos in Volimes: it provides access by sea and connects Zakynthos to Kefalonia by ferry. If this connection is important to your travel plans, please check the current timetable.
