Schkeuditz brings together several different reasons to visit: a historic city walk, a local history museum with interactive stations, an astronomy center and activities at Lake Schladitz. The town is also situated between the floodplain forest, Leipzig/Halle Airport and the lake. These different themes offer a practical range of options without prescribing a set itinerary.

At Lake Schladitz: swimming, exercise and events

At Lake Schladitz, there is a choice of everything from relaxing by the water to sports and events. Sandy beaches and deep blue water invite you to bathe, swim and unwind. A 9-kilometer paved path runs around the lake and can be used for cycling, inline skating or roller skiing. Alongside time at the beach, you can also choose to take a route on a paved surface.

The All-on-Sea Sport Resort at Schladitzer Bay offers sailing, surfing and freediving. Specific activities and operating conditions may change. Musicals, concerts and readings are held at Biedermeierstrand; the program is seasonal and changes over time. The covered stage is right on the lakeshore and can accommodate around 900 spectators. Swimming, sports and stage performances are therefore different ways to spend time at the lake. If a particular event is to shape your stay, check the dates in the seasonal program.

Local history and astronomy

The historic city walk takes in a series of sites: the castle hill, the museum, St. Alban’s Church, Leipzig Gate, the brewery, the Old Town Hall, the district office, the Sattelhof, the old cemetery, the tram depot and Bahnhofstraße. The range of places gives the walk a look at different facets of the town’s history, rather than focusing on a single building.

Since 1937, Schkeuditz’s local history museum has been housed in the former official miller’s residence. Each room has interactive stations for children and adults. The Schkeuditz Astronomy Center has been in operation since 1978 and includes a planetarium and an observatory with an observation platform. This gives you two different cultural themes to choose from: local history and astronomy.

Via Regia and pilgrimage route

Kleinliebenau Manor Church is a historic landmark on the former Via Regia. It hosts cultural events and performances by the Kleinliebenau Pilgrim Choir; the program may change. The Kleinliebenau Pilgrim Hostel is part of the ecumenical pilgrimage route from Görlitz to Vacha along the former Via Regia. It caters to pilgrims. Check the hostel’s availability before you arrive.

Getting here and exploring the region

Schkeuditz is accessible via S-Bahn line S3. To explore the region, you can use the S-Bahn, tram or car. Check current connections before you travel, as transport services and routes may change. Schkeuditz also recommends exploring on foot and by bike. When planning, you can choose between motorized travel, getting around the region and active exploration.
