Discover Bad Düben through its varied highlights: the Mulde, trails through the spa park and countryside, and the history of Düben Castle. When looking for hotels in Bad Düben, it helps to first consider your own travel interests: do you want to spend most of your time at historic sites, or combine them with walking and cycling routes? The sights and trails show what the town has to offer for planning a trip your own way.

Arriving and getting around on foot

A newly built landing stage on the Mulde is located near the town centre and serves as an arrival point by water. On foot, the accessible Kur-Stadt-Weg (Spa Town Trail) leads from the tourist information area into the spa district and spa park. There you will find a walking exercise course, a barefoot path and terrain therapy trails. The five signposted terrain therapy trails have seating, are open to everyone and pass cultural and historic sites such as the Obermühle mill and the spa park.

This makes it easy to distinguish between two walking options: the Kur-Stadt-Weg connects the tourist information area with the spa district and spa park, while the five terrain therapy trails form a separate signposted network with seating and cultural and historic points of interest. The Billi-Bockert adventure trail is designed for families, especially children. It can be split into sections, allowing you to divide the route according to your own plans.

Cycling tours with different highlights

A family-friendly circular route leads into the Mulde floodplain and includes a ferry crossing to Gruna. Check the ferry timetable before setting off. A regional cycling route connects Bad Düben and Torgau over about 45 kilometres, linking the Mulde Cycle Route with the Elbe Cycle Route. This gives you a choice of different types of routes: a circular tour with a ferry crossing and a connection between two towns that also links two cycle routes.

The Waldhofweg is also a circular route. It passes through parts of Bad Düben and heads towards Authausen along the Tiglitzer Forest. Its route includes nature trails between fields and wide-ranging views. The car park on Leipziger Straße near the Mulde bridge is suggested as a possible starting point. You can choose your route according to whether you want to include a circuit in the Mulde floodplain, a regional connection or the Waldhofweg in your plans; each of these descriptions refers to a different route.

Düben Castle and its history

The “Lug ins Land” tower was built around 1206 on older stone foundations and is the oldest surviving building at Düben Castle. The tower includes a dungeon associated with a historic witch trial and the courtroom where a reconciliation proceeding involving Hans Kohlhase took place in 1534. The castle’s history therefore encompasses both early building history and specific events from the 16th century.

The Dübener Heide Landscape Museum opened in the castle’s main building in 1953. Its exhibits portray Bad Düben as a town of farming citizens and craftspeople; the museum also explores its location on the southern edge of the contiguous forest area. The Bergschiffmühle (Mountain Ship Mill) is also on the grounds of Düben Castle. Its outdoor area is open year-round and free of charge; check the conditions before your visit.

The Rotes Ufer (Red Bank) offers another glimpse into the region’s history: the steep bank is up to 15 metres high. It was formed from deposited, leached alum soil, which was mined there from the 16th to the 19th century. Bad Düben thus offers different themes to include in your travel plans, from the history of the castle and the law to the town’s development and historic mining.
