Striegistal offers visitors a range of reasons to stay: hiking trails through the Striegis valleys, historic buildings and viewpoints, and, in summer, the outdoor swimming pool in the Hirschbachtal valley in Pappendorf. Trail conditions and historic sites also shape your plans. Local restaurants, guesthouses and accommodation options help you find your way around. As you prepare for your stay, you can choose to focus on hiking, local history or seasonal recreation.
Hiking in the Striegis valleys: trails and orientation
The trails in the Striegis valleys are hiking trails with natural surfaces, not surfaced cycling or riding paths. Motor vehicles are not permitted on these trails. Plan to use them for hiking and take the natural trail conditions into account when deciding where to go. The trails lie within a protected landscape area. Check local conditions before setting out and follow the signs.
In Mobendorf, there is a large hiking car park on Zur WiesenmĂĽhle, near the entrance to the valley of the GroĂźe Striegis. Its location provides a useful landmark for planning your visit to the valley. Check local parking conditions before travelling.
Stone Bridge and observation tower: local history
The protected historic Stone Bridge in Pappendorf crosses the GroĂźe Striegis and dates from around 1720. You can also visit the Caspas David Friedrich viewpoint at the Stone Bridge. A named historic structure and a viewpoint come together in one place.
The Striegistal observation tower in Böhrigen was built by Carl Gustav Leonhardt in 1890/91. The Striegistal Observation Tower Association (Aussichtsturm Striegistal e.V.) was founded in 2009 to preserve the historic monument and make it usable again. The tower has been open to visitors since 2011; check the current opening arrangements before visiting. From the top, views extend across Central Saxony and the foothills of the Ore Mountains.
The historic Hoher Stein viewpoint also combines a place to rest with views over Striegistal. The HeumĂĽhle is considered one of the oldest historic buildings in the Striegistal area. Nearby, visitors can see former mill races and remains of a historic gold-washing operation. These places offer different points of interest: views and a place to rest at Hoher Stein, and historic buildings and traces of past use at the HeumĂĽhle.
Summer recreation and accommodation
The outdoor swimming pool in the Hirschbachtal valley in Pappendorf is a place to enjoy some summer recreation. As a seasonal option, it is especially well suited to a summer stay. Check the current opening details before visiting. This helps you take the pool’s seasonal availability into account when planning your day.
Striegistal has accommodation options for planning your stay; local restaurants and guesthouses also cater to visitors. Dresden, Leipzig and Chemnitz are each about 30 minutes away. You can focus on the valley trails, viewpoints and historic sites during your visit; in summer, seasonal recreation at the outdoor pool adds another option. Which activities suit you best depends on whether you mainly want to hike, explore local history or make time to relax.
