Eppendorf lies on the northern edge of the Ore Mountains. When choosing your accommodation, the main question is what you want to shape your stay: hiking with a musical touch, local history and crafts, or a day at the swimming pool. Eppendorf offers a range of ways to explore these interests—from the song trail and historical traces near the old grammar school to the outdoor swimming pool.
Hiking with Song Stones and Regional Trails
The song trail adds a special touch: 23 song stones stand along the hiking trails. They feature printed folk and hiking songs, and the corresponding audio files can be accessed on site. The songs were recorded by the Eppendorf Folk Choir. The lyrics and recordings offer two ways to engage with the same songs as you make your way along the trails.
Another excursion destination is the Anton-Günther stone in Gersberg Forest, near Eppendorf. The Eppendorf region also has a well-developed network of cycling and riding trails. Regional hiking routes in the wider area include the Zschopau Valley Trail and the Flöha Valley Trail. The European long-distance hiking trails E3 and EB pass through the wider Ore Mountains. The options range from a musically themed trail to routes on a regional or supraregional scale.
Local History, Church and Crafts
The Fürstenkeller and the former princely garden are surviving traces of a former hunting lodge near the old grammar school. Elector Augustus commissioned the lodge around 1560. They point to a different historical period than Eppendorf Church, which was consecrated in 1865 and is one of the largest village churches in Saxony. Its tower is 47 metres high, and the Göthel organ also dates from 1865. Guided tours can be arranged.
Another cultural attraction is Köhler Arts and Crafts in Eppendorf. The workshop makes figures predominantly by hand, from the first design sketch through to the final detailing. Björn Köhler is a trained master turner. Alongside historical buildings and garden remains, the village thus offers a concrete example of the craft of figure-making.
Eppendorf Outdoor Swimming Pool
Eppendorf outdoor swimming pool has a 50-metre pool with separate sections for swimmers and non-swimmers. It also has a water slide and a separate paddling pool. A large sunbathing lawn and an adjacent recreation area complete the facilities. Parking is available right at the pool, and a kiosk sells drinks and snacks.
