Hartmannsdorf is well suited to a stay that combines outdoor activities, local history and industrial heritage. Options range from a signposted circular hike and a natural swimming pool to church architecture, museums and food-related attractions. You can choose your focus based on the activities you have in mind: hiking, swimming or cultural and historical discoveries.

Circular Routes and Time in the Green

A fully signposted circular hike is 13 kilometres long and offers plenty to discover along the way. Hartmannsdorf is also a starting point for bike rides on the Chemnitztal cycle path through the Chemnitz landscape. Walks in the Zschopau and Mulde valleys can also start in Hartmannsdorf; the valleys are home to castles and palaces. Each option has a different point of reference: the circular hike has a stated length and loop format, cycling follows the Chemnitztal cycle path, and walks take in the two valleys. The loop format and route length provide concrete guidance for planning.

The park around Kirchhofteich offers a green place to relax. It complements the more active options with a quiet break outdoors.

The Hartmannsdorf Natural Swimming Pool

The Hartmannsdorf natural swimming pool has a 50-metre swimming pool, a 10-metre diving tower, a separate children’s pool and a beach volleyball court. The activities therefore extend beyond swimming: diving and beach volleyball are also on offer. The separate pool is another specific option. If you are planning a visit, you can choose among the different activities according to what you feel like doing that day.

Church and Local History

The Hartmannsdorf church was built in 1894 and has a distinctive brick façade and antique stained-glass windows. Its construction date, façade material and windows give the church several clearly recognisable features. The church is open during the parish office’s opening hours. As access arrangements and parish office hours may change, check them before your visit.

The Hartmannsdorf Local History Museum covers local crafts and trade. Its permanent exhibition focuses in particular on Hartmannsdorf’s transition into the industrial age. This brings together the subjects of crafts and trade with the broader economic changes in the town. Those interested in local history will find a different perspective here from that offered by the church: the focus is not on architectural details, but on businesses and change.

Vehicles and Good Food

The Saxon Commercial Vehicle Museum presents changing exhibitions about commercial vehicles, most of which were manufactured in Saxony. The exhibition covers 1,400 square metres and offers insights into around 50 restored vehicles. These include construction and transport vehicles, fire engines and military vehicles, as well as buses. The focus on Saxon manufacturing is thus paired with a range of specific vehicle types.

The Braugut, built around 1500, is a restaurant with a rustic character. Hartmannsdorf Brewery sells its speciality beers in its own brewery shop. The restaurant and shop therefore offer different places to enjoy food and drink: the rustic character of the Braugut on the one hand, and the brewery’s speciality beers for sale on the other.

Getting There

Hartmannsdorf has an exit on the A 72 between Chemnitz and Leipzig. If you are travelling by car, it provides a useful reference point for finding your way and planning your route.
