Bobritzsch brings together traces of historic mining, church art and hiking trails of varying lengths. In Niederbobritzsch, several information boards introduce the area's mining history; in Oberbobritzsch, St. Nicolai Church and a 19-kilometre circular hiking trail with a nature trail offer further highlights. There is also a children's educational trail leading to a destination connected with local legend. When planning your trip, you can choose between cultural and historical sights, a short walking route and longer hikes. Trails and views across Bobritzsch-Hilbersdorf as a whole extend the experience beyond the individual districts.
Historic Mining in Niederbobritzsch
Since 3 October 2021, information about historic mining in Niederbobritzsch has been presented at various locations throughout the town. A large overview board in the town centre at the “Goldener Löwe” bus stop is supplemented by 14 smaller text boards at selected sites. The information ranges from a general overview to individual stops around town. One specific point of interest is the Friedrich-Erbstollen, one of the last mining relics in the municipality of Bobritzsch-Hilbersdorf. Its entrance can be seen on Schmiedegasse next to house number 23. It is listed as an individual monument within the “Rammelsberg Historic Mining Area” complex in the Freiberg mining district and is of local historical and mining significance.
St. Nicolai Church in Oberbobritzsch
St. Nicolai Church in Oberbobritzsch has a 56-metre-high tower. Its furnishings include a winged altarpiece featuring St. Nicholas seated on a throne, dating from 1521; the church also has a Silbermann organ, which is no longer entirely true to its original form. The date 1521 refers to the altarpiece; the qualification about the organ concerns its faithfulness to the original.
Trails, Wildlife and Landscape
The children's educational trail is 1.2 kilometres long and features six large information boards and 15 signs introducing children to the wildlife of the region. At the end of the trail lies the legendary Jungfernborn spring. There is a shelter, a small water wheel and an information board about the story of the three maidens. Nature and legend come together along this short route. The 19-kilometre circular hiking trail in the district of Oberbobritzsch offers a different scale and includes a nature trail. Its length and focus give you a clear basis for choosing between a short educational trail and a longer circular route.
Twelve trails have so far been designated and signposted across Bobritzsch-Hilbersdorf. Along them, hikers can visit historical and cultural sites as well as natural monuments, take a break on benches or go swimming. This extends the choice beyond the individual educational trails to other routes throughout the municipality. From the hills between the districts of Bobritzsch-Hilbersdorf, there are sometimes far-reaching views towards the Tharandter Wald; to the south, the outline of the Ore Mountains is visible. These elevated views add a landscape highlight alongside the named trails and cultural destinations.
