Lenneplätze brings together hiking, cycling and cross-country skiing, all with a strong connection to the local landscape. The Rothaarsteig passes directly by the village, the Winterberger Hochtour leads to Lenneplätze, and visitors can cycle here on routes in the Bike Arena Sauerland. The Neuastenberg/Lenneplätze cross-country skiing area has trails in two designated difficulty levels. This makes it easy to decide when planning your trip: should you focus on hiking, cycling or seasonal cross-country skiing?
Landscape in the Lennetal
West of Lenneplätze lies the Oberes Lennetal nature reserve, covering an area of 6.33 hectares. Lenneplätze offers a scenic view of the Lennetal, as well as views of nearby Kahle Asten mountain. The valley and the mountain are two distinct landscape features that shape the village’s connection to nature. If the landscape is a factor in choosing your destination, these views provide a clear point of reference.
Hiking Trails and Cycling
The hiking trails have different connections to the village: the Rothaarsteig passes directly by Lenneplätze, while the Winterberger Hochtour leads to Lenneplätze. If you are planning to hike the Winterberger Hochtour, check route conditions and trail markings before setting out. Cycling is another option: visitors can ride from Lenneplätze on routes in the Bike Arena Sauerland. This lets you consider hiking and cycling as separate focuses for your trip.
Cross-Country Skiing in the Neuastenberg/Lenneplätze Area
The Neuastenberg/Lenneplätze cross-country skiing area has three kilometres of easy trails and three kilometres of intermediate trails. Both difficulty levels are therefore available over the same distance. The area offers both classic and freestyle skiing. This gives you two specific factors to consider when planning: the designated difficulty level and your preferred cross-country skiing style. Snow availability depends on the season.
Getting There by Bus
From Winterberg, you can reach Lenneplätze on bus route R28 to the Winterberger Str. stop in Neuastenberg; from there, it is about a ten-minute walk. Check bus timetables and route information before travelling.
More Things to Do in the Winterberg Destination
The Winterberg destination has additional sights and activities. The “Family First” loop in the Winterberg Trail Park is suitable for trail beginners and families looking to get their first experience on trails. The St. George ski jump is considered a landmark of Winterberg; its distinctive arch rises 80 metres above the Rothaargebirge at Herrloh.
The Panorama Erlebnis Brücke in Winterberg is 435 metres long and 20 metres high. Visitors can climb over, under or alongside the bridge using five fun elements. It is accessible to wheelchair users; dogs are allowed on a leash. As operating conditions may change, check them before your visit. For downhill winter sports, the Skiliftkarussell Winterberg offers 44 kilometres of downhill runs on groomed slopes and modern chairlifts. This is a different winter option from cross-country skiing in the Neuastenberg/Lenneplätze area.
