Hildfeld combines a historic hiking trail with old half-timbered houses bearing inscriptions and a landscape where hiking trails and cross-country skiing offer their own possibilities. This gives you two perspectives to consider when planning your trip: local history and nature. You can explore the sights along the historic hiking trail, the houses and the trails in the Hildfeld area according to your interests.

Local history in Hildfeld

The historic hiking trail offers numerous sights. Hildfeld is also home to old half-timbered houses with inscriptions. These texts draw attention to specific details of the local townscape. The Hochsauerlandhalle is also connected to the local heritage association: it has been owned by the association since 2000. The hiking trail, half-timbered houses and hall offer different points of interest if you would like to include local heritage in your trip alongside nature.

Another detail of cultural history is the Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was built largely by the local community; the Baroque altar dates from 1760. Here, a shared building history sits alongside a clearly dated piece of church furnishings. This adds to the historical impressions you can take in when looking at the half-timbered houses and the hiking trail.

Hiking trails and cross-country skiing in the Hildfeld area

The Hildfeld area provides access to the Rothaarsteig long-distance hiking trail and includes the Hochheide nature reserve between Clemensberg and Langenberg. In the Hilletal valley and on the high moorland, there are cleared hiking trails and groomed cross-country ski trails. This makes hiking and cross-country skiing two different ways to explore the landscape. When planning, you can choose your focus according to the activity you have in mind: the Rothaarsteig is a long-distance hiking trail, while the trails and ski tracks in the Hilletal valley and on the high moorland offer further options.

Experiences in the wider Winterberg destination

In the wider Winterberg destination, the “Family First” loop in the Winterberg Trail Park is aimed at beginners and families who want to get their first experience on trails. The Winterberg ski lift carousel offers 44 kilometres of downhill runs on groomed slopes and has modern chairlifts. These trail and winter sports activities differ from the hiking and cross-country skiing options in the Hildfeld area and broaden the choice of activities in the wider destination.

Cultural and historical destinations are also part of what Winterberg has to offer. The St. George ski jump rises 80 metres above the Rothaargebirge at Herrloh and is considered a landmark of Winterberg. On Kahler Asten, the historic Astenturm stands at an elevation of 841 metres; it is also a destination for a trip in Winterberg. The two sites offer different points of interest: the ski jump as a landmark, and the historic tower on Kahler Asten.

The Panorama Erlebnis BrĂĽcke is 435 metres long and 20 metres high. At five fun elements, visitors can scramble over, under or alongside the bridge. From there, you can enjoy views of Winterberg, the city's landmarks and sights, and the Winterberg Bike Park. The bridge is wheelchair accessible; dogs are welcome on a lead. Check the current conditions before your visit.
