Thomsdorf offers several distinct reasons to visit: crafts in a converted three-sided farmstead, historic details at the church and the landscape around Lake Carwitz. You can choose your focus according to whether you are more interested in workshops and art, architectural and interior history, or the lakes and hills. For planning purposes, it helps to treat these themes as separate elements: the crafts centre brings together crafts and events, while the church and landscape each reveal a different side of the village.

Crafts, Courses and Events

The Thomsdorf Crafts Centre is a three-sided farmstead converted into a complex with workshops and studios. Around a dozen artists and craftspeople showcase their work there and offer it for sale. The site also includes a canteen-style restaurant, craft markets, courses, concerts and other events. Stephanie Schrantz’s ceramics workshop offers pottery workshops on request. Confirm possible dates directly with the provider before making a workshop a fixed part of your trip. If you are planning your trip around a market, concert or other event, check the dates in advance.

Church and Local History

Thomsdorf Church was built in the second half of the 13th century and is listed in the Brandenburg State Register of Monuments, edition dated 1 January 2026, under ID 09130437. The 15th-century Marian altar and a 17th-century panel painting were saved. A small organ originating from Switzerland was also rebuilt; the church door dates from 1580. The 15th-century altar, the door from 1580 and the 17th-century panel painting belong to different later stages in the church’s history. The crafts centre offers a contrast: workshops, sales and events are its main focus, while the church is defined by its architectural and interior history.

Lake Landscape and Swimming Area

Thomsdorf is located in the Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park and borders the Feldberg-Lychen lake district. The surrounding area is a typical terminal moraine landscape of hills and lakes. When planning your trip, you can give different weight to the region’s lakes and its hilly terrain. There is a designated swimming area at Lake Carwitz in Thomsdorf. Its operating conditions may vary seasonally; check them before your planned visit if swimming is an important part of your stay.

Cycling and Getting Around

For example, you can reach the crafts centre via the cycle route from Templin through Knehden, Warthe and Hardenbeck. Check route conditions before setting off. The Thomsdorf canteen-style restaurant uses mostly regional and organic ingredients. The menu and service may change; if a particular offering is important to your travel plans, check in advance for the latest information. For travellers who also consider where ingredients come from, the focus on regional and organic produce offers a specific culinary point of reference.
