Jakobshagen: Architectural History, Ceramics and Equestrian Programme

The village church, a listed farmstead and the pottery farm offer insights into Jakobshagen through architectural history, rural architecture and ceramic art. A Garrocha riding programme at the horse farm adds guided movement sequences to this selection. This gives you different themes to choose from when planning your visit: historic architectural styles, decorative ceramics or riding lessons.

Village Church and Farmstead

Jakobshagen village church is at Herzfelder Straße 1. Its core is a fieldstone building dating from the 15th century; the church was extensively remodelled in 1887. Its furnishings include an altarpiece assembled from two Gothic carved altars that originally dated from the 15th century. In the monument protection register of the state of Brandenburg, as of 1 January 2026, the church is listed under ID number 09130515. A fieldstone building is made of fieldstones; the term describes the construction method, while the composite altarpiece offers a separate perspective on the history of the church’s furnishings.

Another listed site is the farmstead at Lindenstraße 29–30. In the monument protection register of the state of Brandenburg, as of 1 January 2026, it is listed under ID number 09130516 and consists of a residential house, a barn and a large livestock stable. The two listed buildings are clearly distinct: the church combines fieldstone construction with an altarpiece, while the farmstead comprises a residential house and agricultural buildings. The list distinguishes the residential house from the barn and stable, bringing the farmstead’s multi-part layout into focus. The church and farmstead thus represent different forms of the village’s architectural history.

Ceramics and Visitor Experiences

Ceramics take centre stage at Jakobshagen Pottery Farm, where visitors are invited to look around, enjoy the pottery and buy pieces. Sylvia Kort creates ceramics featuring Uckermark landscapes, including pollarded willows, as well as delicate figures with shimmering wings. As you look around, you can compare the landscape motifs with the figures. This offers a chance to consider regional landscape references and the design of the figures as two distinct types of motif.

Visitors in a group of friends, a tour group or a coach party can watch the ceramic artist at work and be introduced to the basics of pottery. This adds an insight into the craft to the experience of viewing finished ceramics; this opportunity is available to the specified types of groups.

Equestrian Programme and Timeline

The Garrocha riding programme at Jakobshagen Horse Farm offers a different kind of activity. It teaches basic and advanced movement sequences and provides ideas for independent practice. Advance booking is required to take part.

When choosing what to do, the activities also differ in their focus: the church and farmstead centre on historic architectural styles, while the pottery farm focuses on ceramics and offers groups an insight into the work. The Garrocha programme teaches movement sequences, combining guided instruction with ideas for independent practice.

Jakobshagen was first mentioned in a document in 1375. These dates refer to different events and should not be confused: 1375 marks the first documentary mention of the village, the 15th century dates the church’s core and the origin of the carved altars, and 1887 marks the extensive remodelling. For orientation, Jakobshagen lies 8 km south of Boitzenburg on State Road 217 towards Templin.
