Haßleben can be explored through two distinctive themes: the cultural landscape shaped by lakes and wetlands, and the history of the fieldstone church. For a short break, this offers a clear choice between nature by the water, a path along the lakeshore and a cultural-historical highlight. This lets you choose what to focus on each day instead of combining several impressions into a fixed itinerary.

Lakes and a varied landscape

The “Kuhzer See-Klaushagen” nature reserve includes areas of Haßleben in cadastral districts 1, 4 and 5. The cultural landscape is shaped by Großer Trebowsee and Kuhzer Lake. Its features include natural lakeside fringes and extensive arable and grassland areas, as well as numerous small bodies of water, copses and deciduous woodland thickets. There are also small areas of bog, wet and waterlogged meadows, swamp forests and reed beds. The variety of these landscape features makes nature watching and finding your bearings by the water natural focuses for a stay.

The formation of Kuhzer Lake is also part of its special character: it is a fold lake, shaped by the Ice Age. So at the lakeshore, the focus is not only on today’s landforms, but also on a geological history reflected in the shape of the lake.

On foot by Kuhzer Lake

A small natural bathing spot on Kuhzer Lake lies between Haßleben and Kuhz and can only be reached on foot. You can leave your car right after turning onto the path; from there, it is about a 200-metre walk to the spot. There is a shelter, benches and a large sunbathing lawn with both shaded and sunny areas. Allow for the walk when planning your visit, and check the current conditions on site beforehand.

The “Haßlebener Lanke” path runs along the shore of Kuhzer Lake. This gives you two different ways to enjoy the lake: a path that follows the shore, or a visit to the natural bathing spot with its sunbathing lawn and seating. Which one you focus on depends on whether you would rather walk along the shore or plan to spend time at the bathing spot.

Fieldstone church and village history

The Protestant village church of Haßleben is a fieldstone church dating from the second half of the 13th century. Two 18th-century paintings hang behind the altar. The building thus brings together a medieval church and paintings created later. For anyone interested in cultural history, this contrast in periods offers a distinct point of interest alongside the lakeside landscape.

The church and its paintings add a cultural dimension to your stay, while the lakeshore and wetlands provide a focus on the landscape.

Planning your stay

Einkaufsquelle Thiemke is a small, well-stocked grocery store in Haßleben. Its range includes drinks and everyday essentials, as well as fresh rolls and bread, cakes, ice cream and grilled food. It is a convenient local shopping address; check opening hours in advance.

Haßleben is on the B 198 between Templin and Prenzlau, 9 km from Boitzenburg. This information can help you place the village in your travel plans. When looking for a holiday apartment, your interests at the destination may be the deciding factor: if you want to focus on Kuhzer Lake, you can choose between the lakeside path and the natural bathing spot; if you are also looking for a cultural-historical highlight, include the village church in your selection.
