Lakes, a designated bathing area, two cycling routes of different lengths and village history spanning the Middle Ages to the Baroque period give Carmzow-Wallmow several specific points of interest for a trip. When choosing accommodation, you can first consider whether you would like to spend most of your time by the water, cycling or taking in historic buildings. The places and routes can help you decide on a focus.

Lakes and protected area

The lakes in the “Kleinseen bei Carmzow” FFH area were formed from dead-ice blocks left by the Weichselian glaciation in the young moraine landscape of northeastern Brandenburg. The protected area covers around 76 hectares. Its geological origins give the landscape a distinctive connection to the Ice Age.

Lake Brökersee lies northwest of Carmzow and covers 17 hectares. Extensive stands of reeds and cattails line much of its shore. There are several jetties at the lake; the official bathing area is on the southern shore. If you are planning a visit, check the local access conditions in advance.

Lake Ganznowsee, covering 15 hectares, lies east of Carmzow. At 17 and 15 hectares respectively, the two lakes are similar in size; their locations in relation to the village differ: Lake Brökersee is northwest of Carmzow, while Lake Ganznowsee is east of it. This makes it possible to distinguish the two by their geographical locations, without inferring anything about their respective shores from their sizes.

Cycling: from the Spinnradweg to the Gutsherrenradtour

The Spinnradweg runs for 16 kilometres through Wallmow’s rural landscape. It follows shady avenues lined with hedges. If you are looking for a shorter route to use as a point of reference, you can compare it with the considerably longer Gutsherrenradtour.

The Gutsherrenradtour is approximately 99 kilometres long and runs through Wallmow and Carmzow. It connects with regional and long-distance cycling routes. The two options therefore differ in more than just length: avenues and hedges define the description of the Spinnradweg, while the longer tour also connects with other cycling routes. The 99-kilometre figure is approximate, and route information can change; check the latest details before setting off.

Traces of local history

Wallmow was first mentioned in a document dated 13 January 1283. Carmzow is home to an Early Gothic fieldstone church, whose construction is dated to around 1250. The dates refer to different historical milestones: Wallmow’s first documentary mention and the construction history of the church in Carmzow.

The village church has a Baroque pulpit altar dating from 1724. The church building and the altar thus represent different periods: the Baroque furnishing was added more than four centuries after the church was built around 1250. Those interested in architectural history will find specific dates here for the construction and a later feature inside the church.

This gives you a choice of different focuses when planning your trip: a bathing area at Lake Brökersee, a 16-kilometre cycling route through Wallmow or a longer tour through both villages. The history adds two clearly dated points of interest: Wallmow’s first mention and the construction and furnishing history of the church in Carmzow.
