At the Gramzow Railway Museum, railway history is more than just an exhibition topic: children and adults can try out various trains on the grounds and drive them themselves. There is also an exceptionally large exhibition area, historic vehicles and technical exhibits. Those wishing to explore the town will also find culture and an observation platform at SPEICHER GRAMZOW, while the monastery ruin and town church offer their own historical highlights.

Railway Museum: See and drive the trains yourself

The Museum of Narrow-Gauge and Private Railways in Gramzow has a permanent exhibition area of more than 7,000 square metres. On display are historic railway vehicles from different periods, as well as exhibitions on track construction, workshop operations, and railway operations and transport services. Technical installations can be found outdoors and inside buildings. The exhibits cover everything from the vehicles themselves to the work and processes that shape railway operations.

Visitors can also get involved: children and adults can try out various trains on the grounds and drive them themselves. On operating days, the museum railway offers rides on historic railway vehicles and the chance to drive rail trolleys yourself. These are different ways to engage with the railway theme: through the exhibitions and technical installations, or by trying things out or going for a ride. The museum railway operates specifically on its scheduled operating days.

SPEICHER GRAMZOW: Exhibitions and views

The listed Gramzow granary is now an art venue for photography, language, literature and concerts. The building hosts exhibitions, events and themed guided tours; the programme varies. An observation floor adds a view over the town to the cultural offerings. From the observation platform on the ninth floor, the view extends far beyond Gramzow across the Uckermark. The granary therefore offers a different perspective from the railway museum: the focus here is on art, culture and views of the landscape.

Monastery Ruin and Town Church

The monastery in Gramzow was founded around 1200. The ruin of the monastery church is considered a landmark of the oldest settlement in the Uckermark. Another significant building is the Church of St. Mary, one of the largest fieldstone churches in the Uckermark. Together, these places give Gramzow a strong historical character, even though they tell different stories.

For example, concerts by the Uckermark Music Weeks or the Gramzow Summer Concerts are held in St. Mary’s Church. If a concert is important to your travel plans, check the event dates in advance. This lets you plan around a specific event rather than assume that a particular programme will be available during every stay.

Gramzow and the Uckermark: Nature offers another perspective

Near Gramzow, the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve invites visitors to go hiking and cycling. For a broader regional perspective, Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park lies amid the Uckermark’s gently rolling, water-rich landscape. Its features include clear-water lakes, kettle holes and marshes. The nature park has more than 150 kilometres of water trails and over 600 kilometres of signposted hiking trails. These figures refer to the nature park and the Uckermark as a wider travel destination; they do not describe trails in Gramzow itself.

This offers a choice of different travel highlights: hands-on activities and technology at the railway museum, art and views at the granary, historic buildings in town, or hiking and cycling trips nearby. Concert dates are key if you are planning to attend a performance; the museum railway runs on its scheduled operating days. Check the dates for whichever offering is most important to your stay.
