Two distinct trail features on the Castle Trail in Klein Briesen are the Artesian Well and the “Schöne Aussicht” observation tower. From the tower, you can look out over the Baruth Urstromtal. The trail’s 16-kilometre seventh stage also passes through Klein Briesen. The FFH area “Bullenberger Bach/Klein Briesener Bach” also gives the village a nature-focused character. This brings together specific themes for planning: a hiking stage with set endpoints, named points along the trail, protected habitats and a structure listed in the register of historic monuments.
Landscapes along the Bullenberger Bach
The 298-hectare FFH area “Bullenberger Bach/Klein Briesener Bach” lies between Klein Briesen and Bullenberg and is entirely within the nature reserve of the same name. It is characterised by near-natural, summer-cool flowing waters, adjoining alder-ash and bog forests, nutrient-poor lowland hay meadows, and pedunculate oak and hornbeam forests. Rare invertebrates, various bat species and a diverse aquatic fauna find habitats and places of refuge here. The description of the protected area thus ranges from watercourses through several types of forest to meadows and different groups of animals.
Castle Trail and views
The Artesian Well is on the Castle Trail in Klein Briesen. The “Schöne Aussicht” observation tower also stands along the trail and offers sweeping views over the Baruth Urstromtal. The two trail features offer different points of interest: the well’s specific connection to the area is its location on the hiking trail, while the tower also offers views over the Urstromtal.
The seventh stage of the Castle Trail is 16 kilometres long, runs from GroĂź Briesen to Dippmannsdorf and passes through Klein Briesen. The distance therefore refers to the entire stage between these endpoints. If you are planning this hike, check the route conditions before setting out. This helps you distinguish the trail points in Klein Briesen from the full length of the stage.
Village Church and Register of Historic Monuments
Klein Briesen’s village church adds a cultural and historical connection to the area’s nature and hiking attractions. The edition of the Brandenburg State Register of Historic Monuments dated 1 January 2026 lists Klein Briesen Village Church under ID number 09190201.
Bad Belzig in the wider destination area
Within the wider destination area of Bad Belzig, the town lies in the Hoher Fläming Nature Park. There is an extensive network of hiking trails around Bad Belzig, Eisenhardt Castle and the SteinTherme. The 17.7-kilometre Panorama Hiking Trail leads to Eisenhardt Castle, perched on a spur above the historic old town. It runs along the Belziger Bach and through the Belziger Berge, forests, flowering meadows and open countryside, as well as the historic town centre with its winding lanes. Nine terrain therapy trails are marked “TK”; sights can be viewed along their routes.
The nature trail in Bad Belzig offers another hiking option: it is just under two kilometres long and runs along the wet meadows at the foot of Eisenhardt Castle. Its twelve stations include activities such as making stones ring, observing dragonflies, feeling plants and opening large acorns. The content of the stations may change over time. For travellers interested in culture, the local history museum at Eisenhardt Castle explores three millennia of local history. In the “Hagelberg Room,” it displays a large tin-figure diorama of the 1813 Battle of Hagelberg. St. Mary’s Church is Romanesque in origin and was built in the second half of the 13th century. SteinTherme offers a bathing world, a sauna world, and wellness and beauty services.
