Gollwitz combines a village character with historic buildings and routes for cycling and walking. The village is set in an attractive natural landscape, offers opportunities for recreation nearby, and is predominantly quiet and residential in character. When planning your visit, you can choose different areas of focus, from architectural history and longer cycle routes to a walk with views of the birdlife.

Manor Park and Landscape

Gollwitz Manor Park is a protected landscape monument covering around 3.5 hectares. It was probably laid out in the first half of the 18th century. Watercourses also shape the geographic layout: the Emster Canal flows into the Krumme Havel northwest of Gollwitz.

Castle and Village Church

Gollwitz Castle is a former manor house with an adjoining utility building. Its present appearance dates from the early 20th century, after a fire destroyed the previous building. The castle, its ancillary buildings and the extensive park are of historic, urban-planning and artistic significance. Regular public events at the Gollwitz Castle meeting centre give members of the public the opportunity to visit the castle. If you plan to attend an event, check the schedule in advance.

The village church also tells the story of several building phases. It was built from fieldstones in the Middle Ages and renovated in 1750, when the west tower was added. The bell had already been cast in Berlin in 1691. The protected monument status applies not only to the church itself, but to the ensemble comprising the churchyard wall, a Baroque gravestone and the von Rochow family burial site. Here, you can distinguish medieval architectural history, an 18th-century renovation and later commemorative markers.

Cycle Routes with Different Points of Interest

The Havel Cycle Route is a 261-kilometre long-distance cycling route. In Gollwitz, a recently completed 1.5-kilometre section was officially opened and made accessible to cyclists and skaters. This section completed the connection to the Potsdam-Mittelmark district. The Zauche Cycle Route starts elsewhere: it begins in Gollwitz, near Brandenburg an der Havel. Its paved section from Gollwitz to Rietz runs along the Emster Canal and offers good conditions for cyclists, roller skaters and skaters. The routes therefore differ in what the figures describe: the total length of the long-distance route, an officially opened section and the paved route as far as Rietz.

Walking and Birdwatching

Those planning a walk can follow the circular route of the “Krumme Havel & Gollwitz Manor House” tour, which runs along the Emster River. Along the way, it passes resting spots for greylag geese and cranes. The birds can be seen there particularly during the annual spring and autumn migrations. The walk thus combines a specific route with a seasonal nature theme; the times mentioned can help you decide when to visit.
